This will probably be the title of whatever I put out, if I ever put anything out. I forget where I ran across this idea, I think in a book by Ramdas. Here is a rendition that I found online-
The Parable of the Salt Doll.
A long time ago, the salt doll wandered across the land. She traveled over mountains, forests and deserts alone for many years.
One day, as the salt doll reached the end of the land, she came upon a beautiful, shimmering blue mass that seemed to stretch on forever.
"What are you?" The salt doll asked.
"Come in and find out," replied the sea, with a smile on its face.
The salt doll waded into the sea, and slowly began dissolve.
The further it waded in, the more she dissolved. Finally, as the last bit of salt was dissolving, the salt doll exclaimed wondrously:
"At last! I know what I am."
To me it's about approaching the absolute, a higher consciousness that you can't really comprehend or experience unless you let go of everything, dissolve the ego.
Edit: here is a pretty in depth interpretation of this idea- http://www.nonduality.com/salt.htm
