Who Gives Kudos:

June 12, 2009 - Friday

Category: Religion and Philosophy
I don’t know if any of you have seen the (kinda) new Oreo “cakesters”. They are an Oreo but the chocolate cookie part is chocolate cake (hence, “cakester”). They’ve been in the market for awhile, but, as I often do, I had not bought any (lead me NOT into “temptation”) until about a month ago.

As I prepared to pick my boys up from school one day, I grabbed a couple of packages of “cakesters” to give them. I was excited for the boys to try them ~ they LOVE Oreos (which I rarely buy) so I was anticipating that they were going to LOVE the “cakesters.”

As my youngest son opens his package he gasps, “What the heck?” He was mortified. “Who gave the Oreos botox?!” (I laughed so hard.) Evidently, he hadn’t heard of “cakesters” before, and he concluded “botox” because, well, frankly, they look like “pumped up” Oreos.

Makes me wonder how many of us Christians are “pumped up?”

How many of us do something to “enhance” our IMAGE to the outside world, trying to IMPRESS? How many of us parade around in our “Sunday Best” just so people will KNOW where we have been?! How many of us brag about our “studies” to IMPRESS our brethren, or worse, to proudly justify ourselves as we beat others down with our “wisdom?”

Hmmmmm…. Am I a “Botox Christian?”

Are YOU?

humilityIf we are encouraged to come to God “just as we are” then, why is it that we feel like we need to “enhance” ourselves for the rest of the world?

Although God desires in us a pure heart, no one is “perfect,“ and, most certainly, a Christian shouldn’t display PRIDE by “pumping” themselves up to anyone, fellow brethren included.

Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30 - NIV)

If we are looking for Jesus, shouldn’t we look with the same type of heart HE has?!

…I am gentle and humble in heart…

Doesn’t sound like Jesus used “botox.”

Cynthia!!  I am with you on wanting to be more like the Lord!!  I think sometimes we think by SAYING that, it will somehow 'happen' you know?  But I know YOU do more than "say that"...nothing "botox" about you.

I love you more!

<< can you believe they have a cheesy grin emoticon?!

Hi, M!!  Thank you so much for stopping by.

I think Jesus would be SOOO offended by our "botox-ness" you know.  He tells us, "Seek the TRUTH..."  Nothing "true" about "Botox"...('cepts maybe the "botox" Oreos are truly yummy!!)

Glad to see you writing again ;)

Yeah, I did try them Cakesters... and haven't bought them again since... to me, they were like Oreo's on steroids... but love your sons interpretation better

MySpace is like broadway, grand plays being performed upon every blog...
Takes some bravery to come out and reveal who you really are...
hard to admit your faults when it's so easy to hide behind a monitor screen...  pretending to be perfect

Just say the right words at the right time... and people think your golden.

Truthfully, I'd rather spend the whole day chatting with an athiest who is honest... then five minutes with a christian faker

Seems to be a little sarcasm leaking from my pen tonight... maybe that's just my mood... writing a rant right now... something Dennis Leary would be proud of ;)

Enjoyed the message...

Peace,
Eric

Glad to BE writing again.  I hope I can stay 'on board' this time.  :)

You are so right about MySpace being like Broadway (oh, please, fat lady, come and SING!!)

I admire those that HAVE the guts to reveal who you really are.  Too bad that there are those out there that would just as soon persecute anyone unlike themselves.  Huh...that part sounds a bit Pharisaic... Awe, man, now I have that one Dennis Leary song playing in my head and it is NOT a fav!  LOL

Love & Peace to you Eric!

Great analogy! I know people that like those things, but I'm not down with them. I like the REAL oreos!
I think that those people that puff themselves up are really insecure deep down and feel like they need to overwhelm everyone else so that no one can see the truth. A little too much leaven if you ask me!

Many blessings!

Yea, those cakesters don't hold up as well in milk as REAL Oreos either, but I do kinda like 'em (but I won't be buying any more...I'm weak!)

Ha Ha! A little too much leaven indeed!!

Thanks for stopping by Melissa!

I WISH I COULD GIVE YOU 10 KUDOS FOR THIS!!!  ISN'T IT FUNNY HOW KIDS PAY ATTENTION TO THINGS WE DON'T REALIZE THEY DO?  MOST KIDS WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT BOTOX IS.  YOUR SON IS SO FUNNY.  HE MAKES PERFECT SENSE BECAUSE THEY ARE PLUMPED UP.

THIS IS VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING.  WITH JESUS, WE SHOW HIM THE "REAL" US.  TO THE WORLD, WE TEND TO SHOW A "FALSE" US.  I HAVE BEEN PERSECUTED TOO MANY TIMES FOR BEING JUST WHO I AM.  I DON'T PRETEND TO BE SOMETHING I'M NOT.  I DON'T WANT TO BE A "BOTOX" CHRISTIAN.

LOVE YOU GINA.  GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

Great analagy!

Here are the thoughts that come to me from your blog entry.

Botox=pleasure in self, self-will, self justification, self centered and self everything,

Christ=relief from the pains and pleasures of self, actually a cure for the Botox way of life.

I "need" to get busy and get/reflect/accept that "heart of Christ" in a very humbling way and in "all ways"!

Thanks!!

Love you!

Hi G-Boo!
~~How many of us parade around in our “Sunday Best” just so people will KNOW where we have been?! ~~~

LOL!  I don't even have any "Sunday Best."  For that matter I don't have any other day of the week best, either.  When I finally decide to get serious about my weight and start that diet and exercising again, then I will be able to fit into some "Best".  I'm so glad my church is come in whatever you makes you happy.

Have you seen that highly obnoxious and annoying commercial for cakesters where all those women are screaming and running towards the cakester truck?  I wouldn't do that even if they were to offer me a free years supply of them.    Give me the real thing anyday!

Oh and I absolutely LOVE the cheesy grin emoticon.    Now I don't have to do it with symbols.  :D

I love you lots and lots!

LOL ~ ya know...one's "Sunday Best" doesn't need to be what they would WEAR, rather any attitude of "Holier than Thou" ~ Which I know you don't wear either.

I haven't seen that commercial.  Too funny!!

Thank you for stopping by!

I Love you too P-Boo!!

Blanca, thank you so much for this verse!!

"...as with unveiled face..." that is so beautiful.  I don't remember that particular line there ~ don't you just LOVE how parts of scripture are 'unveiled' just when you need them to be?

"...as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit."

BEAUTIFUL!

DARLENE ~ BLOGGITY BLOGGER ~

(((GINA)))

It was so nice talking with you today.  I finally finished supper, dishes and all my chores, so now I can read blogs.

I really enjoyed your blog.  I love what your son called the cakes...botox oreos...LOL

There sure are a lot of botox Christians around MySpace.  I was reading a blog this morning about the "perfect" Christians and how they should relax and really read the Bible and think twice before correcting other Christians...So, I was reading comments and what do you know???  There was someone who wrote a blog in comments - correcting a MINISTER!!!  All I could do was *SIGH*.  If I ever act like that, you have my permission to pop me in the head!

I am glad we had such a nice talk today.  Let's stay in touch!

God bless you and the boys.

Love,
Darlene

Much Love & Blessings ~ You & Dane are in my prayers always...

Hi, Sharon.  The 'picture' (to me) shows submission and says, "as I am"...

And, to answer your question, yes.  It's there a number of times...here's one:

1 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV)

6And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

Always appreciate your stopping by, Sharon!!  Love & Hugs to you.

Yes, Gina, a key is alway humility and a willingness to submit to the LORD only then to we really find liberty to be all HE created us to be.

(1Co 4:19)  But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
(1Co 4:20)  For the kingdom of God [is] not in word, but in power.

hugs

"a key is always humility and a willingness to submit to the LORD only then to we really find liberty to be all HE created us to be."

Just HAD to repeat that...HUMILITY/SUBMISSION is such a valuable 'key'...so often we are so 'puffed up' that we cannot HEAR our Father's instruction.  We need the "Holy Spirit" Q-tip or something.  LOL

Thank you for the additional scripture.  You have such a wonderful gift of doing that!

Love & Hugs to you!
