It's been almost a year since I've blogged here. Whoa. So what's been happening? Weellll...my new record is just about finished. It will be called The Best Days. All the tracking is done except for the strings, which should get done by the end of this month. Josh and I worked like demons for a week in July tracking all the vocals and some guitars (and I got to play the xylophone on a track, too!!). Its an enormous project, much much bigger than Good Girl Blues, so like anything big, its taking a little bit longer. But I also want to get it absolutely right. Perfectionism also delays things :) But that being said, I plan to start mixing in October and I'm hoping by the end of that month there will be new songs up here to whet your appetite for the rest of it.
I also must announce that I'm planning to move to Los Angeles before the end of the year. I've spent a long while waffling about this decision, but I think its time to move onward and hopefully upward. I love Sacramento, and the people, and the music, and I've built quite a teaching empire here that has never slowed down in the four years since I've started it. Giving all that up in the middle of the worst economy in 70 years seems beyond risky, too. But if there's one thing I've learned in this past year or so, its this: I want to be involved in music in some professional capacity for the rest of my life. It's what I was born to do, and given the emotionally trying circumstances that I've faced this past year, I owe it to myself to put my fears aside and seriously pursue music the way I always dreamed I would. I know there will be failure, but learning very often comes from failure. So at the very least, I'll come out educated by all of it. I think its a risk worth taking.
Keep on the lookout for some shows in October; come say hi and share a drink with me (even if I'm mostly drinking tea these days, hehe).
