It took some time and some doing (and the help of a few able-bodied men to help move my piano - thank you, I still owe you drinks), but I am now a resident of Los Angeles County.

Where is this new record??? I don't know. I don't think about it that much.

Just kidding. Back in October I spent some time at Hyde Street Studios mixing it with Scott McDowell. I have another day scheduled for mix fixes and then the next step is to master it.

I still don't have a release date. I even have only a vague idea about the artwork. What I'd really like is some advice. Advice on how to market the album better, because if I have to self-release it again, I don't want to half-ass it. I worked too hard and it took too long for this record to be made for it not to get its proper dues. I just haven't a clue where to start from. I guess the record should get done first, huh. That makes sense...

So far now its just research and networking. Or in my case, learning how to network, because talking to people has never really been my strong point. Talking about myself is even more of an alien concept. I'd rather only discuss music, to be honest, but I don't think thats how it works down here.

Birds are tweeting, oranges are blossoming, its 70 degrees Farenheit. Hello LA

Hi! I think it's definitely about the music! That's what I'm learning. Create a fantastic product (sound & image) that you do not have to apologize for in any way. I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm recording my album and am thinking about marketing/promotion and would not only like to work hard, but also work smart.

I read a good music marketing research paper the other evening posted on FB by DiscMakers. Here's the link to the free download: http://www.musicadium.com/images/stories/papers/GriffithMusicadium_OnlineMarketingResearch.pdf. An Australian University reseached 99 indie artists and gave their findings on what generates record sales for them.

Over the summer, I also read "How to Promote Your Music Successfully On The Internet" by David Nevue. Tons of great insights, trial and error and advice. His music is great too.

I have the worst time talking to people as well. I think I just need to get out of my head and I'll be fine! I did hear a great podcast the other night that touched on that subject on CDBaby's website: http://diymusician.cdbaby.com/2009/09/podcast-spotlight-episode-002-lisa-lepine/. It's definitely worth a listen.

Anywho, love your music and I look forward to hearing more! Enjoy your Sunday! Welcome to LA!

Cheers!

Thanks for the info, Jamila, its all very very helpful :) There's so much on the Internet to digest! It seems almost a full-time job to sort through all of it. I hope to see you this Wed at the WCS Showcase...
