Letter from Chris:

As many of you now know, David Soloway is no longer playing with Saves The Day.  Our partnership in Two Tongues remains intact and will continue into the future as we continue to write new music.  First and foremost, I am sad that David is gone from the group, and I will feel the pain of our loss forever.  When David told me he had decided it was time for him to move on, I understood his feelings and felt immediate communion.  I love David first as a friend and second as a musician whom I respect and admire.  My first reaction, hearing the news that I would lose my friend and partner in Saves The Day, was to disband the group, as I could not envision playing music onstage without him.  After further thought, and following an intimate acoustic tour this past summer with Matt Pryor, I began to realize how much I care about our music and our fans.  I realized that I do not want to stop playing this music.  These songs and these years filled with irreplaceable memories mean more to me than small words can convey.  I feel thanks, awe, and inspiration when I think back over the last twelve years of Saves The Day.  I feel so much appreciation for the connection we have made with you, our loving and supportive audience.  I feel speechless and astonished when I think of all the talented and gifted musicians I have been fortunate enough to have played with over the years.  This is more than a dream come true.  This is what makes me get down on my knees and thank the source of Life as we know it.  I thank you, as fans, and I thank each and every musician I have had the privilege and pleasure of playing with for all of these wonderful moments and memories.  More than anything, I feel the tireless need to keep pressing onwards, to keep growing, keep charging, keep this love here, together, holding on tight, not ready to let go.  So, as hard as this moment is, as hard as it is to feel the sadness in my heart losing my best friend beside me onstage, I cannot stop.  I must move forwards.  I understand and share the pain some of you feel at this loss.  I hold it in my heart.  It is hard not to cry.  Sometimes I do.  But I love you.  And I love this music.  It is my heart, here for you to feel, here for you to hear.  You and I are the reason to keep going.  You and I share this love.  I miss you, David.  And I always will.

Love you,

Chris

Letter from David:

After a lot of thought and many conversations with my good friend Chris, I decided that it was time for me to leave Saves the Day. This is one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make. I will miss the connection that I was able to participate in making with so many of you through our music. Music is a form of expression and communication that I hold in the highest regard, and I consider myself lucky to have been able to share it with Chris, Manny, Durijah, Pete, Eben, Reed, Ted, Bryan, Sean, Justin, Alex, and Damon. I give thanks to all of them, but without all of you who have listened over the years we would've just been pissin' in the wind. So thank you. I wish Chris, Manny, and Durijah the best of luck with Saves the Day, and I look forward to playing more music with Two Tongues and who knows what else.

David

As a fan, I am sad to hear this news. But at the same time, I'm happy to hear you'll be continuing your musical journeys. It's like you've both been travelling in the same hot air balloon for years, hovering above your fans dropping sweet candy for our ears. As for now, David's found his own hot air balloon. And that's ok. I'll still follow the shadows.

What a terrible thing to wake up to.

But David has to do what he has to, even if it makes me cry.

And thank you so much for keeping Saves The Day together.

I'll always love you both no matter what you do.

i cried a little bit when i read this, because i have a lot of fond memories of being tucked in the crowd and laughing with you guys, like at the acoustic show where you guys played basically ever song you've ever written together and drank a lot of beers and shared a lot of smiles with us, the fans, who love you both so dearly.

it saddens me intensely, but i'm really happy that you've decided to keep the show going, chris. saves the day has proved successful through a lot of really pivotal band member changes... and no matter how happy any of us were with the most recent cohesion of musical ingenuity, if there were not change in this world, we'd all be the same nasty organism and there would not be anything beautiful to look forward to.

there's a reason you have fans that come back to EVERY show, EVERY tour, EVERY opportunity they get... there is an emotional circulatory system in place there that your fans are very devoted to. i think band members add very necessary flow and order and something very lovely that i can't find a word for, but if something happens and they can no longer contribute, the system will just find a way to adjust or adapt. the vein is still there, obviously, and your heart is still pumping. i respect you very much for having the love and courage to continue to move forward.

with love and support,

me :)

I guess what is so heart-breaking to me is that of any band I have ever listened to and loved, Saves The Day is one that I looked at and saw a BAND, not just a lead singer with some other people on stage. Saves The Day has been to me, the one band that was more than that. Dave is not just a guitar player and some backing vocals. He is to me, an enormous part of the band. I am extremely saddened that the last time I saw you two on stage together playing the songs I've grown up with, was indeed, the last time.

I do wish everyone the best of luck in their new ventures, it is heart-breaking as I said, to close this chapter, we've lost members of this band before and always moved on and welcomed new members with open arms, but never have we been hit with a loss so hard as Dave before.

I look forward to following your new adventures, Dave and Chris, of course we look forward to more Saves The Day.

I feel all Saves The Day fans will respect David's decision. I'm glad to hear that Saves The Day has not been disbanded over this decision, as Saves The Day has made some of the best music I've ever heard in the last twelve years. Although David will be missed, Saves The Day is too good to not keep going. Additionally, it's great to hear he will not be leaving Two Tongues, as this new project is a dream come true.

We love you guys.

This makes me so sad! David I'm going to miss you. I am very happy that Chris has decided to keep the band together. Without Saves the Day I'm not sure what I would do, I've been a devoted follower for 8 years! I'm sure a lot of others feel the same way.. It would have felt like being broken up with after an 8 year love affair. My heart almost broke. ALMOST. It won't be the same without David but at least we will be able to enjoy the strength, love and power of the rest of the band. oxoxo.

Well dave, my heart fell when i heard the news, it gave me the blues, this letter is what we all needed, thank you for responding to our empty hoping hearts, Thank you for your years of Awesome guitaring, those chords are not easy to pull of, but you did it with great ease. I pray that Chris and the other guys do find another guitarest that is up to par with you, I golf. Chris, Your spirit is endless, you persevere through tough times, you set a great example of a good man and the whole band of saves the day is a good role model of what young people like myself might want to be like in the future, Not all 80's hairmetaled out with drugs and car accidents. You guys are old souls, with great music to prove it, Love you guys, Dave keep rockin, and who knows dave, you might just miss it bad enough to have a reunion tour? Anything is possible.

Wow, I feel stupid. I can't believe I barely discovered this today. Life has been so hectic with finding a job, and the terrible economy. It's also no help that THE BEST BAND decided to split.

Even though it's not a real "breakup." It would just be weird not seeing Dave Soloway up front with Chris. THAT was "Saves The Day." Throughout all the line-up changes, Dave and Chris have still been together, and for me, that defined the band. It is kind of a relief that they'll be together for Two Tongues, but at the same time, Saves The Day is my first love, and you can never replace that.

So do we get another 'Dave Feels Right'?

It's a shame, it really is. There goes one of the last remnants of the 'old' saves the day.

But at least it's not the end of Saves The Day, maybe it'll turn into a positive thing.

At least i can listen to the two of you with Two Tongues.
Gotta be better than nothing!
