Everything and perhaps nothing at all.
We all know and love his music. Surprise Surprise; a child of the 70's,
80's, OR 90's knows AND Loves the music of Michael Jackson.
I can't speak for the entire band. But, for me, as a child growing up
in a black family, there were THREE MJ's: Michael Jackson, Magic
Johnson, and Michael Jordan. But, the most significant MJ is and was
Michael Jackson. You know all the hits. You know all the videos. And,
nothing starts a dance party quicker than The Man MJ himself. You HAVE
TO DANCE. You also have to try and sing in a really high pitched
voiced.
It is in this spirit that we aim as a band, as artists, to strike a
chord with the audience; the lines between artist and audience become
blurred, and you become one. There's no greater feeling than, after a
show we play, hugging the first friend we see and you're BOTH covered
in sweat. YES! Likewise, another amazing feeling is looking out into
the "audience" and seeing a friend or stranger singing the words to the
song we're singing. yes, we're singing. This universal song and
feeling.
This spirit has been with us since we were small children, and some of
us don't even realize it. You don't have to, it is That natural... -
thanks to artists and performers Michael jackson. Thanks, MJ. Thanks
for letting me/us be a part of that spirit so freely, so blindly. Black
or White, straight or gay, young or old. Heck, we ARE the world. HEE
HEE! ... ... Dance on.

P.S. In the streets of Bushwick BK as I write this, where usually
Latino Music is the dominant sound on the street (Bachata, Reggaeton,
Salsa, etc...), there has been nothing but MJ blasting out of cars and
on the streets. Amazing thing is, I'd bet that not too many cities in
the world are sounding different. No, the King of Pop is NOT dead. He,
and His music is very much alive. Shamone, Girl!
