The King of Pop is NOT dead - what his music might mean to a band like Thought.
Everything and perhaps nothing at all.
We all know and love his music. Surprise Surprise; a child of the 70's, 80's, OR 90's knows AND Loves the music of Michael Jackson.
I can't speak for the entire band. But, for me, as a child growing up in a black family, there were THREE MJ's: Michael Jackson, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan. But, the most significant MJ is and was Michael Jackson. You know all the hits. You know all the videos. And, nothing starts a dance party quicker than The Man MJ himself. You HAVE TO DANCE. You also have to try and sing in a really high pitched voiced.
It is in this spirit that we aim as a band, as artists, to strike a chord with the audience; the lines between artist and audience become blurred, and you become one. There's no greater feeling than, after a show we play, hugging the first friend we see and you're BOTH covered in sweat. YES! Likewise, another amazing feeling is looking out into the "audience" and seeing a friend or stranger singing the words to the song we're singing. yes, we're singing. This universal song and feeling.
This spirit has been with us since we were small children, and some of us don't even realize it. You don't have to, it is That natural... - thanks to artists and performers Michael jackson. Thanks, MJ. Thanks for letting me/us be a part of that spirit so freely, so blindly. Black or White, straight or gay, young or old. Heck, we ARE the world. HEE HEE! ... ... Dance on.

Michael Williams

P.S. In the streets of Bushwick BK as I write this, where usually Latino Music is the dominant sound on the street (Bachata, Reggaeton, Salsa, etc...), there has been nothing but MJ blasting out of cars and on the streets. Amazing thing is, I'd bet that not too many cities in the world are sounding different. No, the King of Pop is NOT dead. He, and His music is very much alive. Shamone, Girl!

Shamone girl!? So that's what he says there..you know I have relized since he died that I don't know Half the lyrics I sing in my head of his. But for SHO I have been doing alot of reflecting, even though I don't consider myself an MJ fan..I TOTALLY am..Your right Mike, of course I love his music anyone alive HAS too..I remember being too young to know what was going on, but one of my oldest memories PERIOD is hearing my mom scream upstairs to my 3 big sisters he was on T.V. and them rushing down SCREAMING..and the first time I saw the Billie Jean video wear the sidewalk lit up and the BASS !!(ask Timmy about my Billie Jean moonwalk one late nite) .I love sharing this shit now that he is gone!! I have a scar on my arm from when I was 6!! It's from dancing to a Jackson 5 record with my sisters and trying to dance like MJ did that nite he bust out the moonwalk!!!.I literally spun and put my arm through a window!!.. But having to dance, I know... One last thing, When Thought covered "THRILLER" one halloween BITDay, the way you sang the hook -cause this is thriller-you could feel that "universal" vibe, you were killing the vocals..I know I can't reach anywhere on the vocals of M J, and since he died, I know i've been trying. Ask my roomate, friends, co-workers, and, by the way, no matter my co-workers positive or negative reaction to my singing Michael, it hasn't stopped me ""Ba na na not na na na naaa!!" ..Baby YOU and ME!..JOEY in PORTLAND
