Hey everyone! Well, apparently ever since we've had a myspace page, we really haven't blogged about stuff that was kinda worth blogging about, until NOW! We've been featured as The Dungeon of Orlando's Artist of the Month of December 2008. Below is our interview with Dungeon Orlando Unlive about who we are and what we do and what we have planned in upcoming new year! Be sure to check them out and add them!
DUNGEON ORLANDO UNLIVE-Interview with Abdomen Canvas 12/07/08-
I had the chance to sit down with Adrian and Nathan of Abdomen Canvas before closing the show at the Dungeon. Take a few minutes to see what we can expect from this local Orlando Florida band...
Q: How did the name Abdomen Canvas come about?
Adrian: [laughs and points to Nathan]Interview with Abdomen
Nathan: We were drinking at a random party and for months we were just throwing out names. Then I just said "Abdomen Canvas" and everyone was like hell yeah. It just sounded right…
Q: How long has the current line-up been together?
Adrian: One year… the first show was back last December so yeah one year.
Nathan: Derek [Keys] joined us in that first year
Adrian: We didn't even really want keys but Derek came in and brought something new to the band. We wanted to be different and bring something different to the local scene. We listen to bands like Faceless, Cannibal Corpse… all the classic Death Metal bands. We wanted to be death metal but still do something different.
Erin: So you really didn't even want keys?
Nathan: not at first, but Derek just brought something new while we were writing songs and we decided that we wanted keys
Q: If someone were to ask you to describe the music you play in 5 words or less what would you say?
Nathan: [holds out finger]Brutal ass melodic death metal!
Adrian: I agree. We love to go from one extreme to the next. Keep them guessing. We want to surprise the crowd every time we play. So they never know what to expect.
Q: What band would I find in your CD player right now?
Nathan: um… I just had a total brain fart…
Adrian: Darkest Hour, Knives Exchanging Hands, Suicide Silence and Faceless.
Nathan: All Shall Parish's The Price of Existence That's a fucking awesome cd
Adrian: Yeah I was just naming bands.
Erin: Cheater..
Adrian: Well I switch them out constantly to fit my moods.
Erin: Makes sense
Q: What are some of the bands that you would give your left arm to play with? One of those wow we made it kind of moments?
Nathan: Through the eyes of the dead.. Fuck yes..
Erin: That would be your hell yeah moment
Nathan: Yeah
Adrian: Darkest Hour… those guys are amazing
Q: What does the near future hold for Abdomen Canvas?
Adrian: Breaking up after this show [Laughs]. Just joking…
Nathan: Hopefully touring and new merch. We are also working on a concept album of Dantes Inferno…
Adrian: Recording and writing as much as possible. We are working on new material..
Q: Any tour plans in the next year?
Nathan: None yet
Adrian: We may want to do a one week tour to Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and back. See how that goes and maybe if that goes well do a two week tour and so on. We want to do it right. Then we would want to tour the entire coutryside and tour all the way to the west coast
Nathan: That would be Fucking nasty
Adrian: Signed or unsigned doesn't matter.
Q: How close are you guys to releasing a full length album?
Adrian: January we are taking off from doing shows and really want to just write new songs and concentrate on just writing new material and working on a concept album or full length album. We have been so inspired by bands signed and unsigned.
Q: What is your favorite Abdomen Canvas song to play live?
Nathan: AC Flesh Party
Adrian: Burial Feast! It is just non-stop.
Nathan: Burial Feast would be my second.
Erin: Is that the crowd favorite?
Adrian: Yeah it has the breakdown and the place goes nuts. Then it goes in that one part [plays air bass] and yeah…
Q: What is your ultimate goal for Abdomen Canvas?
[long pause]
Q: What would be the point where you felt content with where the bands was at… what would be the point in which the band reached it's peak?
Nathan: I would never be content. Everyone would be happy with being internationally known.
Adrian: I would love to able to tour in Europe… on an Indy label or with management. When we get to that status and again be internationally known.
Erin: What scene would you want the underground or "Headbangers" ball scene?
Nathan: Any scene to get there at all
Adrian: If someone walked up and said he wanted to fly us over to Europe… that would be awesome.
Q: What do you want to say to whoever may read this?
Nathan: Keep Drinking…
Erin: And tip your bartenders??
[everyone laughs]
Adrian: Go out and support underground metal… signed and unsigned.
