I watched the coverage for the Republican national convention last night on the TV.
I started off on CNN, but the news reporters were all trying to show off how much they knew about this that and the other instead of actually talking about the convention and the issues. So, I switched the channel over to PBS and finished watching it there.
I was twittering the whole time I was watching the show. Here is part of my twitter the stream. My comments are in italics and my reasoning in regular print:
Are these people for real?
The CNN guys were really getting on my nerves, so I switched it over to PBS at this point. I realized why the CNN people were yapping and ignoring the convention speakers. The speakers were not making any sense, talking about how congress has destroyed the economy.
Ready to lead this nation to where? Lots of vague open ended sentences that let people fill in the blanks with whatever they believe
A speaker made the comment that McCain-Palin was the team to lead America, but conveniently neglected to mention where they would us to. It's really good stuff since they neglect to finish the thought, so people just fill in the blanks with whatever they believe.
We get it, McCain was a POW, move it along and tell me why anyone should vote for him?
The next series of speakers all said that McCain was a POW and this fact alone seems to be what qualifies him to be president.
There it is, he summoned 9/11
President Bush summoned 9/11 within the first 2 minutes of his speech.
Let's hope people really look at the experience & voting histories of the candidates and pick the best team to lead us into a better future
This is really the crux of the matter right here. Pick the best most qualified people to lead the country to a more prosperous and secure future.
Lazy Thompson is talking, the guy harldy ever showed up for any sessions, next
Fred Thompson spoke at this point. The was famous on Capitol Hill for never showing up to work. Then, he gave this really awkward speech that seemed like he was roasting McCain, rather than propping him up.
@bgreen indeed it has, people have a vested interest in distracting voters
This was a reply to one of my tweet peeps about my earlier comment about picking people based on their record.
No way?!?! McCain was in the military? He was a POW?!? I had no idea, why doesn't anyone mention this stuff? Thanks for the update Fred!
At this point, I was tired of hearing about McCain being a POW and about how horrible it was at the Hanoi Hilton. I'm not trying to discount his experience, I'm just saying that I feel that they need to move on from this point and seriously start putting some meat on the bones of why anyone should elect McCain.
Seriously, being a POW may show and build character, but it doesn't show me that anyone should vote for you. What have you done for healthcare, for education, for science and research? What have you done recently?
I've had enough of this http://twurl.nl/p6txgz from the RNC for the day
Right as Thompson was finishing up, I'd had enough. I was tired of listening to the malarky.
In a nutshell, I don't think they said anything that would sway someone's vote to McP ticket. I think they were just tooting their own horn and not really bothering to try to convince anyone that is undecided to teetering on the fence to come over to the McP camp.
Another thing that bothered me, was that Thompson, and just about every person that took the stage, was talking on about how the Democrats have grown the government to this huge level, and driven spending all out of proportion etc., etc. He fails to note that he was in congress during this whole run up and that the republican party held the majority in congress (House and Senate) as well as the white house.
Do they seriously think that people aren't paying attention?
Maybe no one is paying attention.
