It's Wednesday night, and tomorrow I hit the road to go to Detroit for my cage match on Friday with Tyler Black. There's a lot on my mind.
My entire career, maybe my entire life has been filled with assumptions. As a bright young boy, my parent's assumed I would grow up to be a lawyer or some other worthwhile profession. When I started my journey in the pro wrestling business, they assumed it was just a phase I would grow out of. Among my peers, my family, and fans, there was an assumption early on that I was too small to ever "make it" in this business. Now this Friday, reminiscent of two years ago in the same city in the same cage with another former tag team partner, everybody seems to assume that I stand no chance.
I live to prove you wrong.
It seems as though I've lost all of the Age of The Fall. I've been beaten, beaten up, embarrassed, time in and time out. I've got nothing else to lose. But at only 25 years old, this dog has one trick left up his sleeve.
Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Our history. Tyler Black, while still in high school pretending to be a wrestler in his backyard, used to sit front row at shows I was wrestling on through out the Midwest. Tyler Black received his first national TV exposure as my tag team partner on MTV. Tyler Black was brought into Ring Of Honor by me. I am Tyler Black's beginning and end. His Alpha and Omega. His God. Friday, Tyler receives God's last gift.
It's no secret Tyler Black's biggest success has come at my side. Alone, he's succeeded only in choking. And I'll choke him out. With out me, he's fallen short in every big match he's been in, and this is bigger than any title match he's competed in.
Friday, history won't just be repeated. History will be made.
Nobody will see what's coming on Friday. This is no assumption. This is a guarantee. Nobody will ever forget what they see on Friday night inside a steel cage, because nobody has ever seen anything like it.
Son when you grow up, would you be the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned? Will you defeat them, you demons, and all the non believers, the plans that they have made? Because one day I'll leave you, a phantom to lead you in the summer, to join the black parade.
