Current mood:  moody
As promised, here are some good stories about Molly.  I guess that the best place to start is at the beginning.

I got Molly from an animal shelter.  I guess whoever put her there was really upset he had to give her up, but something about a job that she couldn't go with him.  I found her online, and she was in the middle of nowhere Kentucky.  I called about her and they told me that smoeone was coming to get her that day.  I had missed out.  Then about an hour later, they called and said the woman coming to get her had another dog that got sick and so she decided she needed to take care of that dog before getting another one.  They told me I could get Molly if I came to get her the next day.  I was a little annoyed with them because it was a 3 hour drive each way and I had to meet my landlord at noon.  That meant I had to get up and start my drive at 5am.  I woke up and thought about not going.  If I knew then what I know now, I would have driven to hell and back to get her.  It was love at first sight when I finally saw her.  They walked me back into the kennels.  Every dog on either side jumped and barked and clawed as we walked by.  She was in the very last stall on the bottom.  She was just sitting there, calm as can be.  They opened her kennel and she just sat there.  They finally said, "come on Molly" and she huffed, but got up and started walking.  They didn't put a leash on her, she didn't run, she just walked down the hall.  They didn't have any rooms open so they put us in the room with the cats so I could spend some time with her.  I told them I didn't need to, that I wanted her, but I guess I had to spend time with her.  I played with her for a few minutes, scratched her belly, then she lost interest.  She started inspecting the cat cages.  Most of the cats hissed and stayed back, but one was up near the front of the cage.  She walked over and sniffed the cage and the cat took a swipe at her and got her on the nose.  She stepped back, turned her head and walked to the next cage.  She almost looked offended when the cat took a swipe at her.  Everything was great until I went to put her in the car.  She realized I was taking her away from where her owner left her and she pulled herself out of her collar to stay.  I got her and picked her up and put her in the car.  She looked miserable the whole way home.  When we got there, she seemed disinterested, but soon she warmed up to us.

The first few days we had her were interesting.  My girlfriend at the time Erin and I were living together but I was going out of town a few days after we got her.  Erin was there in the beginning and she was there with us at the end and for that I'm very thankful but that's another story.  Molly would not go up the stairs so for the first few days I would carry her up and down the stairs.  Erin couldn't carry her, so at some point she decided she was going to teach Molly how to use the stairs.  She slowly step by step crawled up the stairs with Molly.  She would move each of Molly's feet where they needed to go until she got all the way up.  Probably took close to 10 minutes because Molly fought it the whole time.  As soon as she got up the stairs, Molly turned around and walked back down them on her own.  That was Molly, she was stubborn.  She knew how to use stairs, but didn't do it until someone made her.

The next trick we tried to teach, she never really got the hang of.  The doggie door.  We tried and tried, Erin would sit on one side with a treat and I'd help Molly through the door.  She would not use it on her own though.  About 2 weeks after we got her, we let her outside into the yard.  The yard is fenced and she had never tried to get out before.  We were inside watching TV and I went to let Molly in.  She wasn't there.  We walked around the yard, no Molly.  We got flashlights, no Molly.  We looked in the neighbor's yards, no Molly.  We went to the garage to get the car and drive around, there was Molly.  After about 30 minutes of looking and calling for her, she had used the doggie door to get into the garage.  She was just hanging out.  She did finally get the hang of the doggie door, but would only use it if I was leaving to go to work.  She would follow me out the door, so the doggie door had to be sealed up.

When I first got her, I decided Molly wasn't a good bulldog name.  It wasn't tough enough.  Even though she was a girl I got her a blue collar, a blue set of bowls and was looking for a collar with spikes on it.  I changed the spelling of her name to Mauley.  She was my tough little bulldog.  Then, one day it was raining and she didn't want to go outside.  She didn't want to get wet.  I made her go, so she walked over to the grass and just looked at the ground.  She kind of tip toed (if a dog can do that) a few steps in and when she squatted she lifted a leg to kind of hover so she wouldn't get all of her feet wet.  At that point I knew that my rough and tough bulldog was a princess.  I immediately found her a pink sparkly collar and a water bowl for the bedroom that had pink ribbons and the word princess on it.  I got a new name tag with Princess Molly Bishop as the name.  She will always be my little princess, my little angel.

Last story, at least for now.  We had Molly for about 4 or 5 days and we hadn't heard her make a noise.  We thought maybe she was mute.  Finally one night we were sitting on the deck and she saw her reflection in the glass doors.  She started barking and it scared the bejesus out of Erin and I.  If her bite was anything near what her bark was (and I know it could have been from an almost accident) I would not have wanted to be on the wrong end of it.

Ok, now last one, I can't tell that without a little clarification.  Molly wouldn't play rough with her toys, she would sometimes pull on the rope just a little, but if you pulled too hard she would let go.  She would sometimes play a little rough with me if I got on the floor and pretened I was going to fight with her.  She would nip at me, but if there was contact it was usually because I got too close and accidentally hit her tooth or something.  There was one day she got really into it though and she clamped down on my forearm.  I froze, her mouth engulfed my arm.  As soon as I froze, she did too.  She very slowly, very very gently opened her mouth then backed away.  The look in her eyes broke my heart.  She was so worried that she had hurt me.  She wouldn't play rough with me anymore that night, not that week, I don't even think for that month.  She was very very smart, and she had an insane memory.  If she saw something she wanted like say a squirrel, she would check that spot every day for at least 2 or 3 weeks, then would periodically check that spot every now and again.

Thanks for reading these if you do.  There will probably be more.
