Hello Everyone,
We've got some great stuff to show you. First off it's the 2nd issue of Sonic Press and we're on the cover. It contains a short article and a few Sonic Boom stuff so it's definitely worth checking out. Grab a copy from us or any Sonic Boom gig and it's totally free. They revamped their multiply page and posted our faces on it (haha!).
Here's a short excerpt from our interview
How did you guys come to meet and form?
RUSSELL: Me and Joey were already band mates in Skychurch.  We met Pepo and Mic when they still had their own band (Loss of Control) back in 1997.

JOEY: I guess it all started when Russell and I (who around a little more than two years ago, were still involved with the Skychurch thing…) had a bunch of songs that didn’t exactly fall in the same vein of the music we were playing at the time. We had all these ideas and riffs that sort of experimented with other sub-genres of rock, and we were huge fans of bands like Tool and were sort of reminiscing on stuff we listened to in the past, like grunge and alternative and whatever. So we decided that instead of trying to reinvent what Skychurch had already established, we’d form another band and try to play with other musicians we’ve always wanted to work with.

So we gave Pepo a call, who we’ve known since his Loss of Control days, and luckily, even though he was busy being a DJ and still had a year or two left with his studies, that he thought it was a cool idea. So we did the studio thing and tried to figure out where to take the music, then Mic came on board, and well, I guess our past musical sensibilities in metal sort of naturally kicked in and then we found ourselves taking the metal route again. Though technically, the sound and approach was different, it was still within everybody’s tastes and respective comfort zones. We decided it’d also be a bad thing to sort of force the issue with the whole “modern rock” concept we originally had, so we basically just went with our collective gut and created this trippy kind of metal sound we have right now.

MIC: We've known each other for a long time because our former bands used to play together. Russell had this idea of forming a new band and recruited Joey and Pepo. After trying out a couple of bassists they finally ended up with me and that's basically how Intolerant was formed.

How much influence do your former bands have on your current sound?
RUSSELL:  A lot...from the song writing to the performance ethics and attitude.

JOEY: Huge influence, if you were to ask me personally. Skychurch really got my shit together and honed the little chops I had, so it’s that same standard that guides me in Intolerant. Playing with Skychurch really taught me how to NOT fuck-up and really deliver the goods once it’s asked for… both by the band and whoever.

MIC: Some people claim that Intolerant sounds a little bit like Skychurch. I beg to differ. Skychurch is a totally different monster than Intolerant. Skychurch was all about speed and lends itself more to Death Metal and Hardcore. Intolerant is more groove oriented and thrashy with a bit of Hardcore as well. The only thing that sounds Skychurch in Intolerant is Russell's voice and Joey's precision guitar work. As for Loss of Control, they sound much different now than during the time that Pepo and I were in the band. Right now they've got this Brutal Death Grind thing going so there is no real comparison. Intolerant and Loss of Control's sound are miles away.

Do you feel your name lends to your sound? How about your personalities?
RUSSELL: I really have no idea; we just play and write songs that come naturally to us.

JOEY: I guess it would be fair to say yes… Pertaining to the sound, Intolerant is definitely a metal band that doesn’t confine itself to whatever stereotype/s or expectations listeners or people may have. Yeah, we’re staying true to what we do best, but there’s no rules like “we can’t do this and that” to the music or the songs or bullshit like that. As musicians, we want to grow, and hopefully, it’ll get listeners to grow as well. So yeah… fuck musical trends.

As far as our personalities are concerned, yeah- I guess we are a varied lot. And we can be testy at times, we can be a little outspoken about crap we feel we have to address, but most of the time, it’s all in the name of fun.  A little good-natured intolerance for whatever is never a bad thing… just don’t fuck with us, I guess.

MIC: In my opinion the name does lend to the sound that's why we all agreed with the name Intolerant. It represents the whole feel and sound of the band, which is in your face metal. Personality wise, we can be intolerant at times but overall we're a bunch of nice guys. Alex (“Phat Boy” Lim) can attest to that. Ha ha!

PEPO: The name Intolerant fits the sound very much. In terms of personalities, we're actually very normal people who live normal lives and think normal.

If you've noticed, our March sked is pretty bare. The reason is we're gearing up for a provincial tour this April and May. In April we'll be touring with our buddies from Hong Kong King Ly Chee and Shepherds the weak. The tour is called THIS IS WHAT WE CALL UNITY tour. We'll be taking them to Cavite and Olongapo along with our coherts Badburn, Sin, Typecast, and Piledriver. For May we'll be touring Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Tagbilaran City, Cebu, and Baguio. That tour is called SONIC ATTACK. This time around we'll be going around with our a couple of our Sonic Boom brothers and sisters The Ambassadors and Nyctinasty. Just check our pages and calendars for updates. It's gonna be one hell of a ride.
