Current mood: exanimate
So I'm trying out this blog thing to see whether it facilitates some sort of catharsis. While washing dishes over the past few weeks in my kitchen, I seem to be breaking a number of my roommates glasses. I attribute this to a lack of mindfulness. I saw this Alan Watts video where he washes dishes in a really zen like manner. He was making slow vocal swishy sounds and using his whole body while engaging in what is an abviously mundane and undesirable task. He turned it into a spiritual practice. Me, I wash dishes the way 6 year olds brush their teeth...with that "gotta get this out of the way attitude." Then what happens..., I break a glass and am forced to slow down, pay attention, and pick up all the pieces. Isn't that just the point? I wonder if i'll outgrow the need to have things go wrong in order to do the job properly. I mean, my dish washing is not all that different to the way I record music. I do just enough to get the job done and hopefully I can eat a meal on a plate that is clean enough to not get sick. That's why I eat sushi out of the take out box when I order. But I don't order in a lot because I go to bars every night, get real drunk and talk about my feelings. Anyone know what exanimate means? LOVE.
