1.       At such a young age you are already quite active in charity work and creating awareness of worthy causes.  Do you have any goals for what you would like to achieve in this area of your life and what would you like to be remembered for outside of your music career?

• A: I think it's always a good idea to stick to what you're good at, so I don't intend to change my career to something in the humanitarian field.  I figure I can help heal the world with what I do best - creating music. However, I do have the opportunity to also help those who have more critical needs.  Raising money, raising awareness -these things I can do at the same time as making and promoting my music,  I don't have any specific goals -I just intend to do all that I can to make the world a better place and to help improve and save as many lives as possible.

2.       If God gave you wings for a day, or just for a short space of time, where would you go?  Where would you live, and what sights would you see?

• A: Well, I would live in the sky of course!  I would spend my hours flying free with the birds across beautiful Europe, Italy in particular, taking in the sights, the surrounding oceans and maybe I would attempt a trip back home to New Zealand (time permitting of course)!

3.       As a crossover artist your material fuses the genres of pop, folk, and classical.  If you had to choose only one of these genres to work with for the rest of your career, which one would it be? 

• A: Folk -it's a very broad genre of music and would give me the freedom that I crave.

4.       When you sing live, Hayley, what is your favorite moment? It depends on the song, of course, but is it the looks on peoples' faces, the words of the song, or is it when it's all over or just beginning?  It may be none of the above; is it something else entirely?

• A: Now this is a very trick question!  It's definitely a combination of all of the above.  I love the story-telling part of singing and drawing the audience into the story I'm telling.  Although if I'm honest with you, the applause at the end is always a welcome relief! 

5.       What was it like recording with Andrea Bocelli?  Are there any plans to make a studio recording of your duet with him on "Vivo Per Lei?"

• A: It was a great honour.  Unfortunately, there are no plans to record 'Vivo Per Lei' together, but what a joy that would be if it did happen.  Well, you never know? ;)

6.       On your new CD, which song did you enjoy singing the most?

• A: Recording 'Sonny' seated at the piano was a very special experience.  It was the first time I'd really accompanied myself on record.  It's also a very sad and emotional song and I relish songs like these!

7.       How did you get involved in being an ambassador for UNICEF and what has your experience with it been like?

• A: UNICEF NZ phoned me up a few years back and invited me to become a goodwill ambassador.  I have enjoyed the opportunity to help others less fortunate than myself tremendously, although I must insist, my work is really only a drop in the ocean. 

8.       Who and/or what is your biggest inspiration for your beautiful music and why?

• A: I don't have an individual I idolize or someone I listen to constantly.  I tend to gain my inspiration from the musicians I work with.

9.       What type of tree would you be and why?

• A: A proud Kowhai tree.  A native tree to New Zealand and one with beautiful yellow flowers.

10.   What sort of music do you like to listen to on long plane rides?

• A: Very mellow and melodic music...Secret Garden, Mozart, Beethoven, Joni Mitchell.

11.   If not singing, what would you have done for a living and what advice would you give to an artist just starting out?

• A: I have no idea what I'd be doing if not singing!  I am sure it would be something in the musical field -maybe composing or arranging.  To an artist just starting out: have a clear idea where you want to be heading and just go for it!  You need to be willing to work hard and make sacrifices, but if it's what you love you won't question the sweat and tears.

12.   Will your younger sister Sophie appear with you in concert again?  She was a delight to watch in your PBS concert and I could tell she was having the time of her life singing with you!

• A: She used to perform with me quite frequently, but school studies have since taken over.  I can say without doubt however that she will be back with me, up on stage, very soon!  I'm so proud of her and our voices work so well together.

13.   Slane Castle is one of the most amazing settings I have seen for a concert.  What was that experience like for you? 

• A: It was an incredible experience.  Performing as part of a Celtic Woman show was a completely different ballgame to performing solo.  I have to admit, I wasn't spending too much time taking in the setting -I was too absorbed in remembering my words, moves and making sure not to mess it all up for everyone else!!  I loved the experience though and am having a blast touring with them now.

14.   If you had one moment in your career that was special what would if be and why?

• A: Performing, then also recording, with the sensational Andrea Bocelli.  I used sing along to his music in my room all the time when I was growing up.  He has a very endearing voice.

15.   With such a busy life, what does a girl like you do to slow things down?

• A: There's nothing like chilling with family or friends to take things down a pace.  I love spending time outdoors in particular as it's a bit of a rarity in my world -most of my time is spent in hotel rooms, in venues, on planes, in cars etc.

16.   You have been one very busy young lady!  How much time do you get to spend with your family?

• A: Very little time of late.  It's hard; I really do miss them, but I speak to them at least every couple of days!!

17.   If you absolutely had to choose one over the other, would you choose your career or having a family?

• A: Having a family for sure.  Careers can be fulfilling, but at the end of the day people make the world go round, right? ;)  Although it's easy for me to say this as I have already had the opportunity to pursue a career.

18.   What is it that you look for in a relationship from the other person?

• A:  Understanding, respect and openness are key in my opinion.

19.   You've learned German and French at school.  Do you think you'll have a French song in your next album?

• A:  There's no reason why I wouldn't!  I love the language -c'est trés romantique!

20.   Have you ever considered musical theater or acting?  What musical or opera would you like to perform in, if any, and why? 

• A: Growing up, I did quite a bit of musical theatre, some acting and even performed in a couple of operas.  I really enjoyed them all, however, at the moment I'm very keen to stick with my recording career where I get to sing a variety of musical styles.  In my concerts I can pick & mix and this suits me down to the ground.
