Weird Love - Recording Diary - Monday 18th May 2009

I uploaded the first April & I animation today. I think it looks real pretty.

I'm looking forward to seeing what people make of the whole film.

Went to see 'Synecdoche New York' at the Duke of York cinema today. It blew my mind. I don't know what to make of it really but it certainly got me thinking about lots of stuff.. for a change.

Got back to work on Seaside Town. Put a guide bass track down to get a feel for the whole arrangement. I'm really happy with how it's sounding.. I've not really felt this same buzz since I started work on 'April & I' and I feel a lot wiser musically now.  I laid down a loose marimba track. It's really making this song bounce. I'm pretty pleased to have gotten this far in the production without resorting to guitar or piano like I would usually do. I put some nasty timpani down to reinforce the tom tom parts. I've started arranging the horn section for the big parts in the chorus. I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm loving this whole process again. This is what I live for.

Tomorrow is Tuesday which is football day. Fingers crossed my toe doesn't come off again.
Currently watching:
Synecdoche New York (Ws Ac3 Dol) [DVD] [2008] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
Release date: 2009-03-10

That's a deeply weird trailer isn't it. Phil was talking about this film last spring when we worked together. I will go and see it tomorrow afternoon.

Glad you're loving the process again. It's the finest process in the end.

Gotta see some Anish Kapoor this week too.

I was reading a book earlier today that explained the English language meaning of 'synedoche' and lo! hereit  is in your blog.  We'll also be going to the film but not in a cinema near you, heh!

Yer animation is looking a tad overly good.

You asked.

SYNEDOCHE
a form of metonymy, but in this instance specifically 'a whole for the part or a part for the whole': as with 'England' meaning 'the English football team', or the television programme 'New Faces' which isn't intended to imply that the contestants have left their bodies at home.

METONYMY
... [e.g.] Downing Street or Washington are used to mean the British Prime Mininster or the US Government ...

You might have been quicker checking Wikipedia :-p
