Who Gives Kudos:

Thursday, September 29, 2005

So, I was on the bus this morning and thought of this story so I will share.

HISTORY:

There was a Fantomas concert a while back that I could of attended but had a gig of my own that evening. If you know me, Fantomas is one of, if not my favorite band. All of my close friends attended this show and said it was Awesome. Our show was alright too, but I would of rather been at the concert melting at Fantomas Awesomness. My one close friend, who is a singer of his own (and also one of my favorite) bands attended the Fantomas show and later described the event to me as "life changing."

So a few days/weeks whatever, later I was explaining to a young lady I was seeing at the time, how disapointed I was at the fact I could not of been there at the concert and I happenend to mention the comment my friend made about the concert being life changing. She laughed and said that it was rediculious that a concert could change someones life.

Now for My story.

A year after I moved to Kingston, I attended a concert in Ottawa. The Headliner was TOOL and I had no idea who the opening band would be. We took our seats and waited. Four men took the stage wearing security guard uniforms and the first song started. There was a lot of feedback at first but it was interesting music none the less. The lead siger had what looked like a synth and some other equipment infront of him and a bunch of untraditional mic's which seemed to be plugged into it. Halfway through the set a friend of mine whom had floor tickets ran to our seats and said: "Dude, Thats Mike Patton!!!" Me, not knowing who this was,was all "yeah so."
Friend: "thats the singer from Faith NO More"
Jhere: "ahhhh cool?!?"
Man I didn't know who this singer was, nor did I care, I was too into the music I was hearing. It was like nothing I had ever heard before and I loved it.
They finished they're set and TOOL took the stage. I have to say I was very disapointed. It was all special effects and big video screens, whereas the band before I don't even recall them having a light show.
I left that show saying that TOOL was alright but that band before them was wicked.  I found out later that the band was called TOMAHAWK and that this Mike Patton had a zillion other side projects and bands.  I downloaded Faith no More and Tomahawk from my Housmates computer and have never looked at music the same way since. Since then my mind has been open to any style/genre of music (which before I was not) and after hearing those bands and now countless others that are just as good, the way I write and the way I listen to music, even in some respects the way I live have been changed because of that band and because of that concert.

Music can change lives. It changed mine.
