Last month I had the privilege of playing two shows in Madrid. They were the highlights of a fantastic weekend organised by my hosts, promotors Jorge and Eva Fernandez.
Also on the bill for the two nights was the superb Glasgow singer/songwriter Ally Kerr and we were joined on the second night by local favourites Lois Casino.
Before that second gig we enjoyed a wonderful barbecue with some of Jorge and Eva's friends and both Ally and I were persuaded to play a few songs.
It was my first visit to Madrid (and Spain) and I took the opportunity to also take in a bit of football. Having visited Real Madrid's Bernabeu Stadium (admittedly larger, but less charming, than the Ancients' Station Road ground) I ended my weekend at the Vicente Calderon stadium, home of Athletico Madrid, whom I saw come back from 2-0 down (and a man down) to beat Barcelona's Espanyol with an injury time 3-2 winner. The perfect end to a great weekend.
My thanks go to Eva, Jorge, Ally and his travelling companion Barry - and all the wonderful people we met. I look forward to welcoming Eva, Jorge and their friends to England when they arrive in July for Indietracks.
