A viral meme is a legend kernel that may or may not be true. A hilarious one circulated among the right wing knuckle dragger circuit is that Obama is a Muslim. Most of us ignore it at best but the wingnuts swear by it.

Al Giordano did a cool one during the election where he did a little story about Sarah Palin blowing state money on a goofy tanning bed while she was Governor. It went everywhere over the web.

My little meme was quite unintended and more modest. I may have accelerated the use of the term Fern Bar Jazz by the very people who help promote it and hardly like the term.

You see once you toss some controversy to the winds it will occasionally be caught and lofted by chumps who should know better. If they had any sense they'd discover my glorious insignificance and just ignore me as the crackpot I am. But no. It got under their craw and now they gotta chew it and spread it around causing ever more people to chew it and toss it around.

I haven't really bothered with pattern searches on it all but I noticed I'm on yet another high traffic hipster blog outta Brooklyn where the contours of my noxiousness are evaluated and counter assertions are solemnly mapped out.

The blogger is evidently still hopeful that the entire rotting dying music industry and bloated corporate jazz infrastructure may yet be of use to him..poor schlub.

So he comes down on the side of patching these bleeding leaky wrecks up instead of just letting them finish croaking and build some better thing that actually fits a web2 reality. He took mild umbrage at my Fern Bar charicterization of NPR's jazz at network affiliates but then he is in a NYC culture bubble and clearly hasn't met insufferable corporate jazz shill radio stations like KPLU near Seattle.

That thing is hilarious. In the 12 years I lived in Seattle it's rotation changed incrementally and it was as if someone used a template of a crappy AOR station and just tossed in fern bar boomer jazz stuff.

Gawd they were terrible but did the numbers with feckless Seattle yuppies seeking conspicuous ostentation. Much of America on the NPR network is like that with a few isolated hold outs doing actual day to day jazz show invention.

A meme is like a tar baby and now NPR is stuck with the gooey perception of being fern bar floggers simply because they wasted their time trying to rebut my utterly obscure and half useless blog. God are they dumb.

oh, the fern bar memories i have of that wretched hotel lounge up the elevator in some tacky hotel just out of harvard square. the regatta bar, as if the regatta were a things to daily celebrate with saxophones, ferns and weak drinks. the regatta bar where girls climbed up on your lap knowing you had a dick in there someplace but not really caring because you were too fern-varred out to do anything with it. glass elevators are made to be broken but dont do it lest you loose the fern bars upon the face of this earth. better they are cooped up off the hotel mezzanines where the noise therein is easily contained by the skanks who applaud after each solo and the bozos who, finding them attractive, must pretend they are intelligent as well. viva la geezeworld!!!!!
