Current mood: cheerful Category: Life
Dear Brendo's blog-readers, Good day to all of you out there in Myspace! Hope all is well and what not. But, enough of the pleasantries and into the real reason you're here - my 21st birthday and the celebrations which took place! For all of you who don't know me so well, my 21st birthday was on the Thursday the 27th of September just gone, a little over a week ago. HOWEVER, the celebrations started on the night before and ended just last Tuesday. Big freaking week! Allow me to explain in detail, in the form of a day-by-day "diary" if you will... here we go! WEDNESDAY 26th Sept, '07 Today was like any other, fairly straight-forward with uni and travel and all the things i normally do. However it was the night which i was looking forward to. Why? Because i was going to see FALL OUT BOY rock the house at Acer Arena! I'm not gonna bore you with the nitty-gritty, so rather than explain every little move they made and every song they played and how i got there blah blah boring, i'll just say that they freaking rocked and they even played a cover version of Michael Jackson's song "Beat It" which for me was definitely one of the highlights. They played for just over an hour which i think was a little short, but they rocked nonetheless and it's always good for a band to leave the crowd wanting more so whatever. Afterwards, the countdown begun. Robert, Gabrielle, Anthony & i boarded the little white pulsar rocket in order to make the journey home. We set off into the night... THURSDAY 27th Sept, '07 a.k.a Brendan's birthday We were driving through Warwick Farm just outside of Liverpool when from the back seat of the car Gabi started singing happy birthday. I checked the time and sure as eggs it was just on midnight! Robert and Anthony joined her in singing me happy birthday, and i even chimed in briefly in tribute to myself. HAHA! Not really. Wow, what a start! Soon after, they all fell asleep and i was left to drive the rest of the way home on my own. Ally sent me a message at 12:30am which was cool and woke me up haha! I got home to Thirlmere @ approx. 1:00am and shortly after that, i get another message... i thought "geez man, who in their right mind would still be awake at this time of night?" It was Tash. Crazy freakin Queenslander! A few messages were exchanged and then she called me to wish me happy birthday... what a sweet kid! After our 20 minute conversation, i played guitar for a bit (i was so damn impressed at Fall Out Boys version of "Beat It" i simply had to work it out!) Then finally @ 2am, i went to bed. WAKE TIME: 6am... I know it was my birthday and all, but i had to go to uni. So i gets up and get ready, Dad wished me happy birthday and then i went and caught the train. After i'd changed trains @ mac sq n met up with Gabs, Ross sent me a message wishing me happy birthday and letting us know that uni was a no go cause our lecturer's little boy was sick. WICKED! So, i called Chrissy boy and he agreed to pick Gabs & myself up from Padstow station so we could piss around at his (he also wished me happy birthday) and so i could attempt to get Rage Against The Machine tickets. 9am came and i was on the ticketmaster website, and i got the tickets... OH YEAH! It wasn't 'til tuesday i learned that those tickets sold out within 3 mins or something crazy like that! So, tickets sorted, Chris Gabs and i got back on a train to Mac Sq cause Chrissy boy had some shopping he needed to do and we were all gonna have lunch for my b'day. Chrissy boy did his shopping (which was actually for my birthday present - all 3 seasons of Black Books WOO HOO!) I called my sister Mel and she arranged to pick us all up from Mac Sq to have lunch at Sizzlers... Well it was good, Gabs paid for lunch for me, i ended up with crumbs on my shoulder (how i don't know... even today the sheer mechanics of it are mind boggling! Austin Powers) and the waitress got a laugh out of it, we mounted Sizzler flags to my sisters car haha then we all went our separate ways and my sister took me home. I started work at 4pm and it was a pretty easy night... i think of the 8 students i normally have, only 5 of them showed up and i even got an earlymark! Also, my bosses moved one of my students to later so they could have a cake for me when a few of the teachers had breaks. Also, they gave me a present... A GUITAR AMP. A 35 watt Laney guitar amp. WOW MAN! Awesome awesome bosses! When i gots home, my parents had saved me dinner and we had another cake (geez, so much cake!) and then my parents gave me a present ($$$ - the amt will remain unspecified), my sister Ashleigh gave me some cologne stuff and my sister Mel gave me a miniature flying v electric guitar! FAROUT! It's a real guitar, just smaller scale and it rocks like a bastard! It's called vee-wee. Freakin awesome. Then, i played guitar, cleaned my room and mounted some ticket frames ready for my family to come over on Sunday... or so i thought (more on this later). I went to bed at approx. 3am friday morning, which means i only slept for 4hrs on my birthday! Way to go, cause you can sleep when you're dead right? FRIDAY 28th Sept, '07 Today was the most un-eventful of all the days... i worked all day which wasn't so bad anyways. In the evening Rob & i had planned to go to Wollongong and meet up with Dane, but Dane was coming up to Thirlmere for the weekend so Rob and i decided we'd get some beers, play some music and watch some movies. It was pretty chilled out... awesome. SATURDAY 29th Sept, '07 It started like any other day... i woke up got ready then went to work at the music shop. Rob, Chris and Cody had organised to take me out for my birthday that arvo so Rob met me at my joint after work at 12:30pm. We met up with Chrissy boy at Mac Sq to see a movie... Cody was comin later cos he had to work. We seen Hairspray and after giggling like little school girls throughout the course of the film, we left the cinema very satisfied. By that time it was 4:30pm, and Chris had to go to work (or so i thought...) so Rob & i walked around the shops for a bit whilst waiting for Cody. Cody showed up at 5:30pm and we planned to go bowling. Before we did, Cody says to me as Robert was eating Subway that they'd arranged to surprise me by inviting some of my friends and uni friends bowling and that all of them pulled out last minute. Oh well, the thought was nice i thought to myself, secretly surprised that they'd organised something like that without my knowledge. Anyone of you who knows me well knows that i can bea very nosy kid and i likey to know whats going on. That's what makes this next part something i will never ever forget... After bowling, Cody suggested we go back to mine for a few drinks and movies n chill out... so we agree and Cody asks me to travel with him so he can show me a few new songs he'd aquired and so Rob could go back to his joint and pick up his double bass. So i obliged and traveled home with Cody, via Tahmoor so Cody could get some food. Arrived home at approx. 8pm, and Robert was not there. My parents weren't home because they'd gone to see Suzi Quattro in Sydney so for all i knew Cody & i were the only ones there. Well, wasn't i wrong. I walked through the back gate and no sooner had i stepped into the backyard, all the lights came on and my little backyard was full of my friends and family screaming "SURPRISE!!!!!!" at me. Oh my freaking god, i'd been given a surprise party! I was totally shocked and couldn't believe what the frick was going on... the first thing someone handed me was a beer haha, and from that point i knew it was gonna be a night to remember. Photos of me as a baby were posted all over the walls and photo albums were in high supply haha. The amount of work that had been put in was nothing short of incredible. So the beers and the Jagerbombs began, as did the socialising and a great night was had by all (i hope!) A few thanks in particular goes out to my parents and my sisters, as well as Chris, Cody and Robert for assisting with the organising. Dane for helping set up and my Nanna for doing so much cooking! Lastly (and by no means least) everybody who attended and who managed to keep it from me (Gabs & Ross in particular... you see me nearly everyday so it must have been really difficult haha). I wasn't only given a surprise party, i was given a whole bunch of memories i'll never forget, the greatest weekend of my life to date and the biggest surprise i've ever had! It really opened my eyes up to how valuable my friends and family really are, even the ones who couldn't be there. I am truely lucky to know each and every one of you, and i love you all. Now, here's how they pulled it off: * Mum and Dad told me they were going to Suzi Quattro and that i couldn't have people there whilst they weren't home * Chris and Cody convinced me that they really wanted to take me out for my birthday, and due to their working hours (Chris could only be out til 4:30 before he had to leave to go to work and Cody wasn't comin over til after he finished... he got there at 5:30) means i was out all afternoon til 8pm that night. * Robert drove me to C'town and was sure to go the freeway because my family were driving over Razorback * Nothing was happening at my house when i returned home after work * Mum and Dad had arranged a "family" thing for me on the sunday, so i didn't question the abundance of food and stuff. Clever, clever people! I'd been had BIG TIME. And, it made it all the more sweeter for Mum and Dad because i was always saying how they'd never be able to surprise me because i'm such a nosy little shit. Well, you proved that you could and i'll never underestimate your capability to keep secrets again! SUNDAY 30th Sept, '07 THE AFTERMATH: Geez, i've never seen my house in such a state! On the upside though, i didn't feel as seedy as i thought i would which delighted me to no end! We kicked off the day with a thorough tidy up, some bacon and eggs for brekky and a swim in the pool. At 2:30pm, we (Robert, Chris and I) set off for Danes house in order to prepare ourselves for the gig we had that afternoon (as Simply Suave, the busking group) at the Illawarra Hotel in Wollongong. We got our shit together, had a quick rehearsal then headed off down to the coast to play some sweet music. We plated for an hour and were pretty well received... well, the venue owner was very impressed which was the main thing. Afterwards, we dropped our stuff off at Danes Wollongong residence and prepared to go out for the evening. We "pub/club hopped" for a little while (drinking for the majority of it) until Chris, Cody and i decided to head home and we parted ways with Rob, Deanne & Katie. We walked back to the cars (parked outside of Danes place) and noticed the lights come on and Robert come into view through the window, so we headed up and chatted to the 3 we had no sooner left for the better part of a few hours before finally heading home. MONDAY 01st Oct, '07 Chrissy boy stayed at my joint the previous night and Rob showed up fairly early on in the day, so the power trio was re-united for another day of chill-out and whatever the fuck. Rob and Chris decided to go for a swim, but i was not feeling like a swim so i sat on the side. Approx. 20 mins after they entered the subtle warmth of the water, Chris discovered his not-even-1-month-old mobile phone in his pocket, completely saturated and needless to say, fucked. Talk about PUTTING A DAMPENER ON THE HIGH SPIRITS! HAHA! So to resolve the sitch at hand, we travelled to Mac Sq so Chrissy boy could gets a new phone... he managed to convince the 3 dealer to give him a new one which was to be paid for month by month, so great success! Rob bought some white contact so he could make some stickers for his new car, and much of the afternoon was spent making those as well as swimming, eating pizza, drinking beer (and Jim Beam) and generally just horsing about. SO... There you have it. My birthday week in one big fuckin' nutshell, a "king kong blog" if you will. It was no doubt the greatest few days of my life to date and i thank everybody who was a part of it in any way... i'd list you all but there are so many! You all know who you are. Much love and respect, Brendo...
