For real, yo.
Look. Autotune / Vocoders are a cool trick. They can help fix a mix that is off a little. They can make neat little sound effects.
But you can't build a song around musical white-out. You can bump a few notes up that are sagging flat, but stop building entire vocal lines out of Melodyne.
Besides generating a product that can't be reproduced live, you're handing me recordings where the vocals sound like gutteral sine waves. Like Daft Punk singing for Dashboard Confessional.
Now its creeping into hip hop... Suddenly Snoop trades Gangsta for Timberlake.
Don't make me have to call your name out. You know who you are.
If you can't make it rock a cappella, pass the mic.
