hello my lovelies!
check this interview aidan and i did for monday magazine!
"Checking the pulse of Counting Heartbeats"
Apart from being an up-and-coming local band with a new debut CD, Lights, Counting Heartbeats have some other things going for them. Like an appearance on MuchMusic's Much Goes Victoria, a recent live gig at my old high school in Sidney (well, it's something), and a fun, danceable rock sound. I'll forgive the MySpace website (www.myspace.com/countingheartbeats) because the band is worth checking out. And they've even got a suggestion for Monday's "Bill Stuart Tries…" column. Read on.
Describe your band's sound in just five words: "We sound like the apocalypse . . . a very catchy apocalypse," says singer and guitarist Joshua Sparrow.
Been together since? "We have been a dysfunctional yet unconditionally loving family since the summer of 2004," says Sparrow. "We've done that whole line-up change thing a couple of times since the band's genesis but we still see the ex-Counting Heartbeats members on weekends and holidays."
Latest release? "We are truly overjoyed with how it took form and have been told that 'Lights is the new Patrick Swayze' by many a music critic, oddly enough," says singularly-named guitarist Aidan.
Origin of band name? "It reflects our band's philosophy and view on playing music," says Sparrow. "From shows to songs to albums, we try to not miss a beat. We strive to make everything we do as a band count for something." "This is why we have been compared to the apocalypse and Patrick Swayze," laughs Aidan.
Guilty musical pleasures? "Three words: Sting's Sacred Love," admits Sparrow.
Most memorable moment as a band: "Joshua threw up on the Rhodes one time," says Aidan.
Who's on your dream tour? "The Mars Volta, Fugazi, mewithoutYou & Sting—circa 1985," says Sparrow.
Member of your band who most needs a hug: "We'd both really love a hug from Bill Stuart," reveals Sparrow. "Is he going to lay it on us, or at least let us sample some crazy organic pastries?" "Bill, don't leave us brothers hangin'," begs Aidan.
Upcoming shows? "An epic all-ages show at Legends this Friday, and a whole plethora of shows up and down the island in January," says Sparrow.
Future plans? "Reforming Pangaea, filling up Joshua's hot tub, touring and calling everything 'fat boy'," concludes Sparrow. "And in that specific order."
