I have an ego.

I believe that it's the same type of ego that everybody has.  At some point, whether you're a musician, actor, lawyer, doctor, any tradesperson really, we've all said to ourselves that we're good enough to do this for a living - whatever it is!  In my opinion, that is the healthy ego.

Over the years, I have encountered unhealthy egos.  An unhealthy ego is one that is born from insecurity and manifests itself as arrogance.  Without going into specifics, recently I was verbally 'dismissed' by someone that is in a tribute band.  Normally when this happens I don't let it bother me.  I've been 'blown off' by the best in the business and it always makes for a good story to laugh about with my friends later.  There's just something about someone in a tribute band with an ego.

I don't hate tribute bands - most of the time they're a lot of fun!  I have friends who play in tribute bands and they do it well, make good cash, have a great time and play music that they enjoy!  But where do you get off being a prick to anyone?  You didn't write the songs!  You're never going to BE them!  Has anybody ever written a book about a band's tribute band?  Nobody DESERVES to be arrogant.

Get over yourself already.

Barry

Hmmm, Interesting topic.

Its a little hard to believe that someone in a tribute band could be so full of themselves as an artist..., ahem...I mean entertainers, to be arrogant about it.

Unless its the Pink Floydd experience and the person was just staying in character, then its cool.

The worst example of arrogance I ever saw was Burton Cummings, it was so bad that it became hilarious. I still mimick him to this day and that show was 20 years ago in London Ontario. Just him, his keyboard, canned music and an unbelievable self centeredness that dominated his persona.

Have you read Clapton's BIO? That man was a total asshole for the 1st 40 years of his life,
Its a character flaw and its too bad.

I can say that the majority of artists that I have met through the years all seem like down to earth people and a pleasure to talk to.

That includes you Trevor.

Salute,

Barry

got to love these types hey? That reminds me of a number of weekend beer-jammers that are always full of advice. And so really should I follow someones advice who has not played for more then well, ....a beer. I think those types are in the same league as well It is Amazing that a tribute band guy would be full of himself, I have also run accross the odd Moniter-board operater who also tends to be full of issues, ha ha

Laughed my ass off when I found this Trevor.
Too funny! Who hasn't met this guy at some point?

Keep blowing down the doors and guys like this will keep trying to knock you down. Their issues, not yours.
Cheers, Lyman

It's generally quite funny in those cases to tickle them til they pee themselves, always lets them down to earth with a laugh. :)
