Alain Neffe looked deeply into his archive and found many oscruities and unreleased material in combination with 80's tape-classics and compuled this wonderful Box-Set. VOD presents this collection of wonderful tracks by french Darkwave-Masters. Franck Lopez and the other band-members have digged into their Archives and compiled a great selection from their very rare Tapes plus other treasures
In parallel to its official vinyl/CD discography, OPERA MULTI STEEL recorded during the eighties several K7 tapes including many unreleased tracks : « Autres Appels » (1985), « Eternelle Tourmente » (1986), « OMS/Modern Art » (1987), « Je regarde la Pluie »(1987),« Regret qui s'écaille » (1987) . Those K7's were home-duplicated in those times in very limited quantities (between 100 and 300 copies).
This 3LP Box set is an anthology of the tracks featured on those different 80's K7 tapes (originally 2-track reel tape recorded) that were the seeds of some songs rearranged or rerecorded later and even contains some demo versions of never-released songs. Those different limited edition tapes are nowadays deleted and considered as real collector's items.

Lest We Forget is a collection compiled from the earliest recordings by Nocturnal Emissions, a group founded by Nigel Ayers, his brother Daniel Ayers and Caroline K in 1980. It comprises of material previously only available on cassettes as well as tracks recorded under their earlier name, The Pump. The Nocturnal Emissions were active in what has been known as "cassette culture" and explored the medium of underground cassette exchange in parallel with their better known vinyl releases and live performances. They used the available technology of the day in a spirit which seems to have anticipated modern social networking through the Internet. This series of documents offers a rare glimpse at audio sketchbooks; raw, unfinished works-in-progress and live performances by the group. It covers a wide range of musical style by a group who were committed to radical experimentation in both form and content. The box set also contains some previously unreleased tracks from the early '80s which sound surprisingly contemporary and fresh.
The group has undergone several mutations since these early recordings and continued into 21st century as a solo project by Nigel Ayers. Caroline K left the group in 1984 and produced one solo album before adopting a more private life. She remained a good friend and lived in England, Sri Lanka, and finally in Italy. She married Danny Ayers in 2001. While the edit of this collection was being assembled, she took ill with leukaemia and died during hospital treatment a few days later. Caroline's distinctively moody electronics, vocals and bass guitar feature strongly on these albums. We offer this box set as a tribute to her life and work.

It's a hopeless fetish that leads in an ever contracting spiral - music is born continuously and defies attempts to capture it in decorative tombs. Nevertheless. We have here a very decorative tomb. Music made from 1977 onwards by people who would be identified for a time as 'Severed Heads'. Much is by Richard Fielding who left in 1982. Some by Andrew Wright, gone in 1980. Some by Bradbury, left in 1985, Deering also.
In each case the music has been taken from the best copy, cleaned only as much as needed and organised to fit onto long playing vinyl. It is ancient, funny, half arsed, crinkly, clever and juvenile. It was compiled by a prick. All proceeds will be spent by Fielding on horse races. Buy two because they will wear out."

Gerechtigkeits Liga is the band/project which evolves around Till Brüggemann. In the early 80's GL travelled to London to meet up with Domnik Guerin of Twin Vision/SPK. Dominik introduced them to Graeme Revell and Brian Williams of Lustmord, who were running Side Effects Records and both of them decided to release an album by GL. Two more GL tracks were also released on the seminal compilation Vhutemas Archetypi, which also featured groups like Laibach, Lustmord & SPK.

The Systematics were a band from Australia. They existed for four years, from 1978 to 1982. They released 3 records: The "Pulp Baby" 7" on the australian label Doublethink, a 12" EP called "Rural" and a 7" EP called "Fat Cows Go Down An Eastern Beach" on the australian label M Squared. The music of The Systematics is pretty unique. If you search for it, you will find it somewhere in the grey area between No Wave, Post Punk, Minimal Electronics and Pseudo Pop Music. "What We Did In The Afternoons" is a Double LP. The first LP contains everything The Systematics have ever released on vinyl - all the above mentioned releases, as well a two contributions they made to the M Squared compilation LPs "Growing Pains" and "A Selection". SPOON FAZER is the early 80's solo project of Simon Patterson from the UK who got his name from his band mates when playing in some in avant-garde punk bands in Devon and London. He is still occasionally called 'Spoon' by old friends. Being originally a drummer, fortunately Simon found interest in working with synthesisers and drum machines. On stage he used to play his electronic drums with guess what … spoons, of course! SPOON FAZER released the "Music 2 Dance 2" 7"EP (Project Records, Project 1, UK, 1980), Sunset 12"EP (Illuminated Records, ILL 912, UK, 1982), which actually featured the first vinyl appearance by Jimmy Caulty of later KLF fame, and was featured on the "East of Croydon" compilation LP (Nothing Shaking Records, SHAK 1, UK, 1981). Apart from that, SPOON FAZER recorded two tapes entitled "Bam Boo" and "Just another Man-in-Sect". CAR CRASH SET "Join the Car Crash Set" LP ANNA 016.2008 17,99 €

CAR CRASH SET were one of the very few electropop acts coming out of New Zealand and have released several vinyls nationally between 1983 and 1986. Basically, the CAR CRASH SET consisted of synthesists/composers David Bulog and Nigel Russell and guitarist/producer Trevor Reekie, and was formed in late 1981. They created such outstanding electropop songs with a Roland TR-606/808 and such lovely sequencing, - e.g. "Fall from Grace" is definitely a song that Anna will take with her into her grave – that it is indeed a shame that they didn't receive more attention. Anyway, their 1983 12" 'Two Songs' (including "Outsider" and "Fall from Grace") and the V/A 'We'll do our best' LP (including CAR CRASH SET's "Toys") are at least highly collectible items amongst electropop connoisseurs and many people will be happy to see these tracks being available again as well as four previously unavailable demos from both their earliest and later days. David and Nigel are said to be recording again together with only the original Roland gear ("nothing else will do" as David says): TR-606, Jupiter-4, MC-4, System 100m modular and System 104 sequencer as well as Nigel's Korg MS20… oh well, Anna is prepared! TWINS NATALIA … is a most unreachable dream coming true! Being involved in this project, I feel a bit timid writing this. Anyway, the TWINS NATALIA songs are unique products of creative minds working together in order to write some beautiful, catchy and substantial electropop songs combining an early 80's musical approach (analogue drum machine sounds, way of sequencing, etc.) with up-to-date recording techniques. TWINS NATALIA is one of the many brainchildren of Steve Lippert, Anna's permanent and wonderful graphic designer, who we owe so much. The basic musical ideas are composed by Marc Schaffer creating a basic melancholic and melodic structure. Additional composition, arrangement and performance by Dave Hewson, with beautiful lyrics and vocal lines added by Sharon Abbott, performed by Sharon, and Julie Ruler, the latter three well-known from actually being POEME ELECTRONIQUE. In the end, for me this is close to being the perfect electropop. Further tracks are at early stages so a complete TWINS NATALIA album is planned for 2009.

For this project we found four artists which are known for being since their first approaches to music as "Neo-Futurists" and uncompromising "Industrial"

- Merzbow from Japan, the father of Japanese noise ! this is the sound Russolo was playing if alive today
- Rapoon from UK, with his first project "Zoviet France" Robin Storey was one of the very first artists using toy instruments !
- Sacher Pelz from Italy, Sacher Pelz was the very first project by Maurizio Bianchi also known as MB , he was one of the very first artist theorising electronic noise !

VEX from Canada comprising Alan Lord and Bernard Gagnon (CHAM PANG) present the earliest track on this compilation dating back to 1979, a truly pioneering work! INVISIBLE ZOO from the USA bring us a powerful electropop tune. SOLITAIRE from the USA was a one-man project with pioneering live-electronics. GILDED YOUTH from Australia are known now as well including a member from SECOND GLANCE and having been released on the Reminiscent compilation. ADN' CKRYSTALL is Érick Moncollin (aka Dr. Strange), an artist from France and truly a pioneer in electronic music since the mid-70's. Already in 1976, he was jamming with Vangelis and Tim Blake in Paris, and he was also testing the KORG MS20 in its flat prototype version (and is still owning and using a MS10 prototype today!). In 1982, he released his first album "Jazz'mad" which definitely is in Anna's Top-5-electronic-music-albums list. The unique weirdness and brilliance of this album is unequalled and a class of its own. Érick never stopped playing and recording electronic music, but, of course, styles changed over the years. In late 2006, "Jazz'mad" was nearing its 25 years anniversary, and thus Anna asked Érick if he wasn't interested in recording a sister album to it - in "Jazz'mad" style, of course! Érick enthusiastically agreed and armed himself with his two Kawai Synthesizer-100Fs, Korg KR-33, CRB'1969 Diamond 742, Roland Juno-60, Roland JX-3P, MXR phaser 100, Boss Flanger BF-2 and SDE200 Delay. Paired with his weird performing skills, "Minilab" is a worthy companion to "Jazz'mad" and no-one into minimal electronics shall miss out on it. Record features:

SUDETEN CRECHE is Mark Warner and Paul Carlin from the UK and probably they need not much presentation. Their minimalistic electropop track "Are Kisses are out of Fashion", originally released on the 1982 compilation EP "Europe in the Year Zero" (which amongst others also featured Yazoo), is widely known and respected. Furthermore, they released the four-track 12"EP "Kindergarten" in 1983 on Illuminated Records, which is, of course, very hard to find these days. »Torch Songs« is a collaboration between Jonathan Coleclough and Andrew Liles. They met in October 2004 when they both performed at Intergration 3 in Preston, UK. Liles subsequently reworked the recording of Coleclough's solo performance from that evening. He went on to add, subtract, multiply and divide further live recordings supplied by Coleclough, and the eventual result was this double LP. »Torch Songs« is packaged in a gatefold sleeve featuring »I dreamt I was a river«, a poem composed and painted by Geoff Sawers during a performance with Coleclough in Geneva in March 2005. The sound of Geoff's brush painting this lettering can be heard on side B of »Torch Songs«. There is a special edition of »Torch Songs« (250 copies) which includes an additional CD of Coleclough's solo performance at Intergration 3, the basis for some of the music on »Torch Songs«.
