The new album is nearly finished. Here's a quick preview:
The new album, set for release on itunes and CD baby on March 6th, 2009 will be entitled 'Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.' The album, 10 new tracks all composed and arranged by myself, will have a more stripped-down, softer sound than the previous critically acclaimed release, 'What A Day!' and will possess a consistent band line-up throughout. Every track came to life since the move out to Colorado Springs, and I think this shows through. There's more sunshine on this album. More altitude. A strong southwestern influence, as well as a new found love for jazz and classical, is evident (to me anyway). Out with the 'epic', 5 minute anthems (Give, Riann) and in with the 3:30 chamber-pop tunes. The album was recorded entirely at home and at Tom Park's grandma's house in Woodland Park (that woman can BAKE! Food of course.)
This is the album I've wanted to make for years - as opposed to 'What A Day!', the album I thought the public would want. Unlike with 'What A Day!' there has been ZERO consulting with people in the business regarding these songs. Some of these songs have only met the ears of Julie and the musicians who are playing it. It's been so freeing to shed aside my youthful delusions of grandeur, triumphantly raise my middle finger to the industry and say 'this is me'. In that way, I think the album resembles 'Gimmick' more so than 'What A Day!'
It's hard to accurately describe your own work (and even harder to not look like a self-obsessed prick while doing so), but I will say that now that I'm mixing and listening to the entire thing in sequential order, I believe it's just a very fun, very pleasant listen. I hope you'll agree with me come spring!
Special thanks to Nick Davey for letting me mix my album at his house and eat his cookies.
Thank you so much for your continued support of my endeavors.
