The Holy Kiss. Where to start?  Well, recently I had the distinct pleasure to take in my first (and they’re last, for now) show at El Rio in the beautiful mission district of San Francisco.  They are nothing to be fucked with.
Fresh of a Europeon journey to convert any non-believers, the four piece outfit consits of frontman Matty Rue, bassist Panther MacDonald, guitarist Alli Pheteplace, and Nick Ott on drums.  With releases over the past 9 years scattered about labels like Gold Standard Labs, release The Bats, Hungry Eye, and Kill Shaman, needless to say these cats are vets of their craft.  I’ve read countless comparisons to legendary musicians and writers in the past, all of which would be enough hot air up anyones ass to keep them floating for the rest of their days.  But fuck that.  The Holy Kiss sounds like The Holy Kiss, and that’s just the way we like it here.
Sad thing is, as previously mentioned, The Holy Kiss has disbanded for now.  However, they aren’t leaving us empty-hearted by any means.  The soon-to-be released EP, appropriately titled ‘Gunslinger’, has been on heavy, heavy rotation at Frite Nite headquarters.  The four track, fond farwell of a gem has had the same effect on me as watching a burning funeral boat sailing away into the distance, carrying the ashes of my best friend of many years.  So tragic to see them go, yet so incredibly beautiful and epic in their final departure.
