Sectas Voices of the Damaged By Dino Raecker, Pop Rocket Press. July 2008
With a name like Sectas you might be expecting some black-death-metal-speedcore-thrash band with cookie monster vocals flying by at warp speed.
Thankfully, this in not the case. Voices of the Damaged starts with classic Black Sabbath-Metallica power chord riffage, soon followed by requisite double-bass drumming.
Vocals range from the southern swamp rock vein of Fireball Minisrty, to Rush balladry, to Alice in Chans, a heavy influence throughout.
Sectas is a power trio from Phoenix, who claim to have started playing at ages two to five, before forming at a house party.
Their first full-length album is a great house party music, provided your friends enjoy heavy metal. Mixing prog-rock with grunge and some great harmonies with soaring solos, Sectas is a welcome addition to any metalhead's collection.
