Rhian Cahill is the alter ego of a Australian-born stay at home mother of four who currently lives in the beautiful city of Singapore. She loves to read and write all kinds of books but those with a happy ever after ending are her favorite. As Rhian she writes erotic romance and loves to use Tropical and exotic locations as the backdrop for her stories. The steamier the better but the one thing you'll never find missing is the romance, love and happily ever after. Her debute book, One Night in Bangkok, was released April 11, 2009 and was a smashing hit with readers and reviewers. It was quickly followed up by Singapore Fling which received equally rave reviews. So pull up a chair and get to know Rhian with us or visit her website at www.rhiancahill.com or her personal blog at

Do you have a favorite genre to write in? (ie. Historical, Paranormal, Fantasy) If yes Which and Why?
My writing and reading follow the same pattern. I have no favorite and usually find myself writing and reading several different genres at the one time. Currently I'm working on two erotic contemp stories and two paranormal, plus I'm reading two contemps, one romantic suspense, one paranormal suspense and one romantic contemp. LOL I guess I have focus issues.
When did you start writing?
I've written for as long as I can remember. Always wanted to be a writer but it wasn't until after my four kids were all in school that I started to pursue it more seriously. And once I did I knew I'd made the right decision. Now it's what I do full time.
When were you first published?
My first short story, One Night In Bangkok, was published April 11th 2009 form Noble Romance Publishing. Just happened to be the year I turned 40 so it was a great birthday pressie.
What did you do when you got your first Acceptance Letter?
Rang my Hubby (who was in another country) and woke him up to tell him. Then I emailed my CP's and squeeeeed in their ears. *grin*
Do you do a lot of research or is it mostly imagination?
Most of it is imagination but some aspects, depending on the story need to be researched. For instance I recently needed to do some research of a particular type of wild animal to make sure I had the characteristics right.
Are you a "plotter" or a "pantser"?
OMG! I'm soooo not a plotter. Give me a plot to follow and Mr. Muse and my characters will head in the other direction, usually at a run. LOL
What authors influence your writing?
Nora Roberts and Heather Graham are the reason I decided to try my luck at getting published but I'm influenced by those that step outside the box. I love it when an author takes a story in a direction that might not be acceptable to most. But the person who encouraged me and supported me has been Nicole Austin. I love her work and becoming one of her close friends has been the highlight of my writing life so far. Oh, and I can't leave out Mari Carr. We're like sisters separated at birth. I'd be lost without either of them in my life.
Can you write anywhere or do you need your "space"?
I've been spotted writing in my little notebook while waiting in line to use the bathroom or the bus stop. And there was that time when I wrote over 2,000 words in a busy bar in Seaside, Florida. I love my 'office' though. It has the best view, on a clear day I can see all the way to Indonesia.
I see that many writers listen to custom soundtracks while writing Do you and why?
I have music on all the time. Depending on what I'm writing it can be just my itunes library on shuffle or a particular play list. But I've found I can't write without music if I'm home. When I'm out it's fine because of all the noise around me but at home I have to have the music blaring away.
Do you ever read a story and get the urge to rewrite it?
Sometimes. I'll reword a sentence or think a whole scene should have been deleted but then I think it's hard to stop the writer's mind from doing that. It's rare for me to read a book that sucks me in enough to forget about rewriting it. It's that damn internal editor. Some needs to kick his butt for me.
If you could have one of you books turned into a movie would you? Why or Why not? If yes which one?
That's a tough one. I'm working on a series at the moment that would translate well to the screen but it's not something I'm aiming for. If it happened it would be thrilling though.
If you could co-write a book with the author of your choice (living or dead) Who would it be and why?
Oh this would have to be my CP's Mari Carr and Nicole Austin. I love their work and it would be great to be able to write something with them.
Do you write on a set schedule or whenever you get a chance?
It's a bit of both. I find some days juggling the four kids and writing just don't mix and then others it does. But I try to write everyday. I don't always get to but I do try.
If you hit the MegaBall Lotto tommorow would you still write?
Hell yes! I can't NOT write. There's all these people screaming in my head to get out. I'd probably go mad if I didn't write. Of course there are those that will tell you I'm already mad. *grin*
What is your favorite writing beverage?
Tea. Can't survive with tea at all
What do you do when you're stuck on a scene? (Walk away, reread what you've written, keep trying)
I find if a scene is about to be bogged down a different story will start getting louder in my head and I'll have to write that down first. Then miracle of miracles I go back to the other story and things run smoothly.
Do you write primarily for Electronic publishers or Print and Why?
At the moment I'm aiming just at electronic. I'm not sure what the future holds for some of my stories and I'm not really concerned either way. I just want to get my stories published so I can share them with other people who have a passion for HEA.
What is your biggest pet peeve about writing (ie. edits, query letters, reviews, writers block) and why?
I hate synopsis writing. Hate it! It's the one area that I struggle in to the point of throwing things. I know I've put off sending a story to a publisher for a while because of it. I like to refer to it as a sucknopsis. Makes me feel better. *grin*
Do you have anything new coming out soon?
I'm waiting patiently (read hitting the check mail button every half a second) for a reply on the first in a series for four stories. *sigh* I'm not good with the waiting.
Anything Else you want to share?
I'd love to hear from anyone that's read my stories. I think as an author one of the biggest thrills is hearing from a reader. There's nothing better than someone emailing to say they loved your book. I'm also part of International Heat which is a group of authors, reviewer, cover artist and an editor from all over the world. We have a blog, http://internationalheat.wordpress.com/ and a reader group, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Heat_Wave_Readers/ where we hang out and talk about our work and our love of the romance genre in general. I'd love for people to pop over and join in with us.
