So, one thing I miss about Taiwan is Mister Donut. It was not cheap (50 cents to a dollar ten a donut, no discounts for dozens). However the donuts were unlike anything you could get in America, often using things like glutinous rice flour, green tea, almond flavoring, etc.

Here is a menu from the Japanese site.

The history is really quite interesting. I was amazed to find out it was originally a US chain. Check out the history, and if you are ever in Japan or Taiwan make sure to go to one. I personally recommend the Pon de Ring donuts. Speaking of Pon de Ring donuts, they had the cutest claymation ad campaign ever (weird cannibalistic overtones aside).

Check it out...

Hen ke'ai

Also kwai!

Ok this one just takes the concept of animals eating each other a bit too far, but is still cute!

Hrm, will watch this one when I have more time...

Wow. The flavorings and ingredients are interesting. We had a Mister Donut about 5 minutes from here. It was walking distance from our first apartment in the area. It is still open but is called something else now and they changed the donut recipes.

Sounds interesting, but my all time favorite will still be the glazed Chocolate Old Fashioned from Dunkin' Donuts. My dad would come upstairs early some Saturdays and we would sneak out for a pre-dawn donut - he with his coffee and me with a glass of milk. Later, when we got the SUV we would go drive the Old Stagecoach Road to Cripple Creek and back.

And that's why I like Glazed Chocolate Old Fashioned donuts from Dunkin' Donuts.
