HIGH TIMES / Doobie Fans,
As was previously mentioned in several blogs, the winners of the Doobie Awards (like our Stony Awards and Miss HT pageant) are not determined by how many comments someone receives on MySpace—they are voted on by the HIGH TIMES staff. Most major award shows (The Oscars, the Grammys, etc.) are all chosen the same way—by an "academy" or select group of industry professionals, not by the general public. Fans are free to show their support for their favorite artists by leaving comments for them, but these do not determine the winners. We apologize for any misunderstanding.

In blog posted on 1/9/09:

"NOTE: ... this is not a voting system, so PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE 100
MESSAGES SAYING SO-AND-SO SHOULD WIN—it won't help."

THE INDIVIDUALS

We got nothing but love for HIGHTIMES! It wasn't easy getting 163 people to say that we were the best! The comments are from France, Bulgaria, Holland, etc... Most Award shows are fake and give Awards to the performers and not the best Acts! Of course we want to be rewarded for all of our hard work in the Movement and we don't see much competition when it comes to Promoting Marijuana! Our record speaks for itself and we have to question why we haven't won yet! HIGHTIMES should always consider the content when making there decisions. With only 2 CDs we have more Pro Marijuana songs than Snoop or any others except KMK! Why even have a blog if the fans don't matter? Just come out with the winners that you picked! If a band can only get 39 people to say that they are the Best compared to 163 then the professionals and experts are not experts at all! They dropped the ball! We have to question their choice! We can take it to the stage! It's easy to pick Uncle Snoop to sell Magazines but how radical is that? What about the new folks? The real 420 Artist? We only perform for Pro Marijuana events! We do other shows as solo acts! If we don't get the love from the Marijuana Industries where should we get it from. We have been featured on WEEDS twice and we have won 11 Marijuana Music Awards! When our solo careers take off should we then be respected like The Game and all of the others? When it comes to Marijuana they are not in our league! We are not Underground we are Marijuana Music which is a new genre(started by KMK). It is one thing to have one song about WEED but it is an entirely different thing to base your entire image around Marijuana! We have gotten a lot of love from HIGHTIMES but we feel that the Marijuana Community has been slow to support us! Have we been invited to the Cannabis Cup? NO! We have given away radio plays just to make Marijuana related Music, so why shouldn't we be rewarded? Many people ask us why are we going solo and mainstream. Well it is because the Marijuana Community does not pay the bills! Most Hemp Festivals are free and we tried to play them all(Boston is funny acting)! We didn't complain last year because we felt Muck Sticky should have won! This year was ours and we were robbed just like the Grammys cheated NWA and gave it to Will Smith(politics)! The people buy the Music and the people should decide! The Grammys is a racist organization and is the wrong model to follow, and the same for the Oscars! HIGHTIMES should do more to promote the Pro Marijuana folks! Muck Sticky, Los Marijuanos, Ill E Gal, THE INDIVIDUALS, KMK, Devin The Dude, 311(done already), Herbal Minded, etc... should all get more articles and write ups.
Where is the front page with us all on there? The same for the comedians like Bud Ez! You guys were slow with KMK! You are getting behind the times! KMK should have made the front cover years ago!

We want to thank all of our fans who did the right thing in supporting us, and we are sorry that your vote/suggestion was overlooked! You guys are the Best and made us feel like winners!

HIGHTIME has done lots of good things for the Movement so this is no big deal! If we didn't complain about how we felt we doubt if we would be Marijuana Activist at all!

With all due respect guys....

it was MUSIC awards.

It's an underground magazine's recognition to the year's best underground MUSIC. It wasn't awards for who were the most pro-active people against the reformation of marijuana laws. It was about the best tunes, man.

Plus I remember them clearly asking us for our opinions on who should win and why. It was never a voting/popularity contest [only for people who have internet access]. It was a 'convince them' contest.

sorry fellas...there was disrespect intended. Next year we will be sure to make it clear that there is no voting involved on the site. graveyard BBQ support the movement too, and have played and donated to many Norml benefits in new england. they also got a lot of "votes" and they were committed enough to drive all the way down to Texas just to play the party.
Don't they deserve some props for that?

we'll try to find a way to make it up to you and your fans.
and if you guys come to austin next year, we'll guarantee you a slot to perform, okay?
