And in these times when pain does rise and I self-criticize, demoralize, over-analyze Angel spirits wise help to turn my eyes from looking inside to the skies The sun still shines! they remind Even when it resides behind clouds and hides And each day tides are pulled by the moon and tonight the moon is full and bright My gaze is on its light reflecting on snow so white fallen from an atmospheric height an ancient sacred right of water wind and light and all I know is to walk out below the stars and show the ancestors who flow through me that I can be free.
As we approach the Winter Solstice and the days grow shorter and darker, we are called to take refuge in the light within ourselves. We are called to be light for others. Our seasonal journey asks us to savor the light, feel gratitude for it, and shine it into the darkness, illuminating paths of understanding and love.
In this process we inevitably bump up against our own darkness and are given opportunities to sit in the mystery of our shadows, to be with those less than lovely sides of ourselves, and to heal a little more of our own suffering. Although this process can be scary and intimidating, the result is always a brighter light that shines through with more ability to help others find their way.
We never know what will be the end result of our spiritual pilgrimage into the darkness. Perhaps there is no end result at all. Yet we have faith and trust that we will once again see the sunrise and that the clouds will part. We will find the light again! We will know it and dance with it and sing it out loud.
As I prepare for a second West Coast tour this winter, I am faced with this challenge of not knowing. I have a beginning date and an end date, and I have called out to friends and family and the Great Spirit for help in manifesting this vision, part of a lifelong dream to share music with people and build community along the way.
Many friends and supporters have answered the call and are dedicating their loving energy to help make this tour a reality. I am so grateful for the light you share with me. May it multiply and shine brightly into the cosmos!
I have several dates booked already and still have space for more house concerts, coffee shops, schools, libraries, community centers, parks, churches, temples, and other creative places that may want to host a wandering folk singer from Michigan. Please contact me if you are interested in helping to organize a performance or if you know someone who might be.
I know that this tour will be another opportunity to move through darkness and into the light, to shine brightly together, and to be free.
With a Loving Light for You and Your Family,
Joe
