Kalai King was formerly the vocalist for L.A. based country and roots-pop band Hawkeye. With the sensibility of a 70s era singer/songwriter, and the passion of a heartland rocker, King brings heart and soul into his material. And on his debut solo 4-track EP, he presents an organic mix of country, blues, gospel and rock, so seamless it sounds of its own kind. The disc opens with the broody and swaying Damaged, followed by the un-blues-like Second Chance Blues. The Water choogles on with a spirited folk feel before settling in the heartfelt Nowhere To Be Found. Honest and rich, the Red & Black EP is a bold calling card from a fine songwriter.
