'A yawling sweet growl of a Midwest country ballad from the depths of Manchester. This is the sound of a man making achingly beautiful and deliciously miserable music, it's official; you can put your Will Oldham records away now'.

'Fat Northerner release another interesting record with Bone Box's gruff 'Do You Feel You've Been Warned?' with some lovely pedal steel guitar, whisky-stained vocal and a much more county-tinged edge than we're used to from our Mancunian friends'.
Alex Lawson / Shadow Play
'Oh the wonder of it all, the airily breathtaking congress of pining steel guitars, slender plucked acoustics, fan faring trumpets and vocals that pardon the vernacular sound like they've been tuned, turned and tailored by a bollock dropping Cathal Coughlan. Culled from their 'Death of a Prize Fighter' full length - which re-assuringly cheesing us off somehow passed us by - 'Do you feel like you've been warned?' is your succulent slice of parched porch lit pop stoked to brimming with folked up death head bluegrass motifs that combined strangely exude a sense of comforting warmth that impishly pinches you now and again just when your backs turned - in short moderately knee slapping if your idea of a full on barnstorming hoedown happens to be a night in with the Bad Seeds' 'Kicking against the Pricks'.

'Do You Feel You've Been Warned', by the superb Bone-Box, is taken from their exquisite album 'Death Of A Prize Fighter'. Although quite typical of their material, it's a surprising choice for a single; I'm not sure that the singles buying public are ready for such a bold step just yet! Very much in the melancholic Nick Cave mould 'Do You Feel You've Been Warned?' also has touches of Tom Waits in its vocal style and is generally a bit of a genre blurring work. Beautifully composed and arranged yet chillingly simplistic, 'Do You Feel You've Been Warned' tells the listener everything he/she needs to know about this excellent outfit - Bone-Box are different and are definitely not going to be everyone's choice of easy listening. But, in a strangely strange but oddly normal way, Bone-Box actually are very easy to listen to; they take musical experimentation and instrumental juxtaposition and bring it back to earth. This excellent country blues laced song demonstrates Bone-Box's penchant for surprising the listener with instrumental dynamics; acoustic guitars inter-play with pedal steel guitar, horns and strings - all sitting comfortably behind the dusky, gritty vocals, all knowing their individual place - all adding 'sparkle' - all adding up to something like nothing else you've ever heard. 'Do You Feel You've Been Warned' by Bone-Box certainly won't be challenging any Robbie Williams or Take That releases any time soon but, could easily become a cult hit through the various media outlets that are now available. For me, that's fine coz Bone-Box can't and shouldn't be compared with the 'pop' acts of the business - Bone-Box are something else altogether! 'Do You Feel You've Been Warned' by Bone-Box is a stunning work that's thankfully unlikely to grace the top echelons of the 'pop' charts - it's too good for that!!'.
