It's true! I saw the incomparable Paul McCartney Live in Portland OR on Friday, Nov. 4, and it left me speechless! (literally, I lost my voice from screaming so much) I felt so priviledged to have had the opportunity to see this living legend. I took many lessons away from the concert that have inspired me as a musician. Hopefully, you all can benefit from them too. Here are a few: 1) Stay humble. For goodness sake, the man was in the BEATLES, and yet, he remains humble and kind. He spoke to us (the audience) as if we were all good friends. When he spoke of the Beatles, he said simply, "The Beatles were a great little band, nothing more, nothing less." 2) Take care of yourself. Paul, at age 63, looked and sounded incredible. Even if he didn't live the cleanest life during his younger years, he sure is making up for it now. He had more energy than a lot of people 1/3 his age, and his voice, HIS VOICE! It sounds the same as it did years ago! I closed my eyes as he sang Penny Lane with his new band, and the sound gave me shivers! I could have sworn I was really listening to the Beatles! If you want to keep your fans happy, be able to sing your hits until the day you die. :) 3) Don't forget your roots. My favorite parts of the concert were when Paul spoke of his youth in Liverpool, and how it influenced his music. I know some musicians who are ashamed of where they grew up, and want nothing more than to disassociate themselves from their home towns. Nevertheless, it all adds to the tapestry of our lives. 4) Have a sense of humor! I think it is why so many people can relate to Paul, because he doesn't take himself too seriously. Having a sense of humor can really open you up to other people. 5) This is a lesson I have learned for myself. If you EVER have the opportunity to see someone in concert who you truly love, DO IT! Even if it costs an arm and a leg, even if you have to take a day off of work, do it. The dollars and the hours will pale in comparison to the memories you will have for the rest of your life. This is especially important if the person you are dying to see is getting up there in years. With all that said, I guess I'd better stick to it myself! I'll be recording some new songs soon. I'll also be buying Paul's new album soon, which looks to be fantastic. Even if you are not a huge fan, I still recommend it. I hope you all have a wonderful day. <3 Rani
