I can't believe some of the crap I'm hearing from the men running for president on the "red" side. A Constitutional Amendment to ban abortion, and a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage? Are they freaking kidding me? Then bring back prohibition, slavery and keep women from voting because they're not smart enough you know!
The Constitution was drafted to make our country work together better than it was under the Articles of Confederation. Many states wouldn't sign it until the "Bill of Rights" was added *the first 10 Amendments* to the constitution granting rights and freedoms. Freedom of speech and religion, right to bare arms and state militias, the right to not quarter soldiers, no citizen shall have unreasonable search and seizures, the right not to self incriminate yourself, a speedy public trial, a trial by jury if you sue for more than 20 bucks, no cruel and unusual punishment nor excessive fines/bail, THE ENUMERATION IN THE CONSTITUTION, OF CERTAIN RIGHTS, SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUED TO DENY OR DISPARAGE OTHERS RETAINED BY THE PEOPLE, powers not delegated by the constitution is delegated to the states and or the people.
In case you missed the caps the 9th Amendment is..THE ENUMERATION IN THE CONSTITUTION, OF CERTAIN RIGHTS, SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUED TO DENY OR DISPARAGE OTHERS RETAINED BY THE PEOPLE. Oh and let's not forget the 14th Amendment! "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
What part of that says "unless other wise not liked by church goers? The constitution was made to be a living document to give us more rights not less! I don't fully agree with abortion yet it's not my right to impose my views on others on what they can or can not do to their own body. What would be next, No tattoos, no piercings? Oh you don't have to hire someone unless they go to your church, or how about banning bi-racial marriage AGAIN. Where does it end? Are we trying to be a western Iran? We'll have a president and a congress but the real power will be held by our cheif religous leader whom also controls most of the military. Will the people of Jewish faith be banned from the country or forced to wear a star of David on their lapel? Muslims, will they be killed or deported? You can see the logic of a slippery slope taking rights away based on religion.
As for "homo marriage" I can tell you it's not a choice. Imagine if you will you wake up one morning and say "How can I have the entire world hate me, I got it! I'll be homo!" I want to be treated like crap, threatened, called names, be a hate crime target that's not protected by law unlike the colour of your skin would be. I want the relationship with the one I love to be compared with beastiality! Surely you can not see yourself possibly saying this, then you know where I am coming from. If you can't then think about going down on your best friend of the same sex. Appalled? GOOD! That's how I feel about the box lunch at the Y.......... As for a sin, I can assure you that there has only been one perfect person on this earth. We all will face our maker and be judged by him not some preacher.
Back "in the day" inter-racial marriage was compared to beasiality as homosexuality is today. Stupid things where even spouted to stop inter-racial marriage such as... "Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, Malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix." That's how the judge Leon Bazile put it in his ruling of a couple whom married in DC yet charged in their home state of Virginia for violating the Racial Integrity Act. Would you dream of any one let alone a judge saying that now? Loving V. Virginia finally by the supreme court held that such laws where illegal and unconstitutional. The majority opinion was "Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival.... To deny this fundamental freedom on so unsupportable a basis as the racial classifications embodied in these statutes, classifications so directly subversive of the principle of equality at the heart of the Fourteenth Amendment, is surely to deprive all the State's citizens of liberty without due process of law. The Fourteenth Amendment requires that the freedom of choice to marry not be restricted by invidious racial discrimination. Under our Constitution, the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual and cannot be infringed by the State." ........ It seems to me that I'm getting screwed and not in the good way! Mrs. Loving issued a rare public comment in 2007 about the case that she and her husband brought forward..
"Surrounded as I am now by wonderful children and grandchildren, not a day goes by that I don't think of Richard and our love, our right to marry, and how much it meant to me to have that freedom to marry the person precious to me, even if others thought he was the "wrong kind of person" for me to marry. Government has no business imposing some people's religious beliefs over others. Especially if it denies people's civil rights.

I hope and believe that one day that same sex couples will have equal rights as other couples have. Logically speaking if marriage as it's done today under law was about having children and being a religious ceremony only people couldn't be married in a drive through by Elvis in Vegas nor would my Great Grandma been allowed to remarry at age 92 as she couldn't have children. One wouldn't have to go to the court house for a marriage license before being married like one must go there for a passport to travel. I don't care what the crap you call it, the word marriage doesn't have to be a word to describe it. Call it the Shut the homo's up license as long as it entitles us to the same rights you expect being joined in "Holy Matrimony" by an Elvis in a drive through.
We shouldn't dick with the Constitution to remove rights any more than we should ignore it as the Bush administration has!
