Wine to feel good about drinking

We cannot live on Three-Buck Chuck alone. And it makes it a little easier to splurge on a decent bottle of vino when we know that some of our hard-earned cash will be going to a good cause. While there seems to be a wine charity event almost every month, dressing to the nines and forking over big bucks for a ticket just isn’t in our weekly schedule -- or budget. Thankfully, these bottles mean we can do something good even while watching the tube in our robe and slippers: Bob’s African Wines: Wine importer Bob Lynde and business partner Jessica Harrington, creators of Portland-based Fat Barrel Wine Co., are importing a range of wines from South Africa under the Bob’s African Wines label. So far the line includes sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinotage, shiraz and a shiraz/cabernet sauvignon blend, all for around $10 a bottle. Ten percent of the proceeds benefit Africare and U.S.-based African relief organizations. Bob’s African Wines can be found at Zupan’s, Fred Meyer, New Seasons, Wizer’s and Market of Choice, among other stores. Visit www.bobsafrican.com.
