All I can say is that if you were at the Rocco Deluca & The Burden show last night at The Basement then you know the only word to describe it is "DAMN".
Rocco and Ryan filled the room with a wall of sound that can only be described as massive. Set list was a great mix of laid back folk, blues and straight up in your face distorted Rocco dobro rock that never fell flat, despite the absence of a bass player to hold down the bottom.
I had the pleasure of seeing them two nights before in Cleveland and to compare the two shows -- Columbus was the highlight. If the phrase is "Cleveland Rocks", then you have never been to a Rocco show in Columbus. Cleveland may Rock but Columbus kicks ass. God bless all the people in this city that support the live music scene. The crowd was in to it and I hope Rocco felt it -- he sure looked like he did, blazing a blend of rythm and slide solos one after another that made the audiences chests pound.
On the last note, I have never met a more gracious and hospitable guys than Rocco and Ryan. It isn't often you can approach an artist and have a conversation with them when you don't feel shocked or intimidated. They were signing autographs, taking pictures, and talking to the fans and you got the impression that they actually appreciated the audience. Kudos to Rocco and Ryan for staying real and keeping human despite the BS of the music business.
Columbus, or at least the MojoMan looks forward to the next show.
Peace, Love, and Mojo.
