"This past Friday night, I had the privilege of being asked to be a judge at Site:B's "Battle For Halloween" band competition. For any of you not familiar with Site:B, you need to know more about it, my friends.
An extension of the Uptown Music Collective, Williamsport's non-profit school of music, Site:B is an all-age, multi-genre live music venue ... but also houses the Collective's Drum School and Audio Visual Recording Arts Program. The atmosphere at Site:B is pure rock & roll ... black ceilings and all. I was impressed by the place, and bands will be, too. House sound & lighting is provided, along with drums and other backline gear.
The four bands battling it out on Friday night all kicked out some serious rock, and the winning band was The Ups & Downs ... as determined by both the audience votes and the judges' scores in several categories. The other three bands were Slave To The Kill, Get The Humans and The Royal Assholes (gotta love their name). Obviously, I can't divulge how I personally scored everything ... but no band received low marks from me. They all rocked their hearts out, and they did so with noticeable musicianship. No garage bands here, folks. All of these bands came well-armed to do battle.
So, friends ... when you see an event at Site:B listed on my calendar here, do yourself a favor and go. Experience original, live music in raw form. Forget the fact that alcohol isn't involved. Think outside of that ... and treat yourself to bands you might not ever hear at your favorite watering hole ... sometimes unpolished, but ever-passionate ... loud and proud and rockin' without regret. Think CBGB's without the booze!
And parents? If your teenager wants to go to Site:B ... let 'em!! The staff is friendly and the environment is safe and monitored. I, for one, hope that Site:B stays alive and well for years to come. There's no doubt in my mind that some of the next generation of rock stars will have played their first gigs at Site:B. Support live music ... and support Site:B !"
