On November 10, the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls debuted their newest team, the Contenders, at the Fat City Entertainment Center, a suburban venue just outside of Denver. This expo-type bout featured RMRG's new B team that took on a mix-up roster known as the Others, made up of members of RMRG's travel team 5280 Fight Club and newer skaters. The Contenders faced an uphill battle coming into this bout – not only were three of their best players, Green Venom, Mama KiCass and HoJ Simpson unable to play this bout, but Fight Club super stars Frida Beater, Pinky 500, Winona Fighter and Assaultin' Pepa were playing on the opposing side.
This bout was made up of two 30-minute periods as opposed to the three 20 minute periods RMRG traditionally play, and the first half was an especially rocky start for the Contenders. Due to a couple of jams in which the Contenders were down a jammer due to penalties and Frida was able to pick up a number of points, the Others grabbed a substantial lead by halftime. The Others' lineup relied heavily on Fight Club blockers within their pack, and the Contenders were fairly light on jammers as Smashbox and Luscious Smacksome held down the majority of the point scoring. Halftime saw the Others holding a significant lead at Others 67, Contenders 28.
Behind by almost 40 points, the Contenders realized that their focus had to be on defense for the remainder of the bout. Blockers Catholic Cruel Girl, Dakota Dynamite and Mistress Tarable upped their aggression while Anne Shank attempted to aid in the jamming department. The Contenders were able to more than double their point scoring in the second half, and managed to win the half by a fair margin at 65-47; unfortunately for the new team, that wouldn't be enough to overcome their slow start in the first. Final score: Others 114, Contenders 93.
