A long time ago, the Park Theater in my hometown was guaranteed to show horror or monster movies on Saturday afternoons. And my mom would kick me out of the house on Saturdays to go see one. (Normally she’d say "why don’t you run around the house a few times?" But that goes by too fast. Better to get rid of me for hours, walking downtown, seeing -- hopefully -- a double feature, and walking back. Slowly.)Here are a few I enjoyed:

"Godzilla v. Monster Zero" -- EEEEYAHHH!"
The Navy v. the Night Monsters" -- a sailor lost an arm to those bad boys."
Equinox" -- I thought that was the name of a giant monster in the movie, not a particular time of year. LOL
"Santa Claus meets the Martians" -- what the H*LL is that doing in there????

Nowadays, the Park Theater houses an acting troupe, the Magical Players. I’ve never seen anything they do. But it was about that time that the West Theater across town started hosting live casts for "Rocky Horror" on Saturday nights at midnight -- which they have hosted ever since. And I have that crew on my friends list. (Are they in my top friends? I better check that...)Since most horror movies are just as crappy now as they were then, let’s bring ’em back. Special matinees at the West on Saturday afternoons! How about it?

Dr.
Franklin,

Thanks for bringing back some fond memories that I had a lot of at the Park ( and Lake ) theatres. Though the Park was my favorite place to see all the ghoulish fare. I remember when the ticket price was fifty cents and a bag of popcorn and a coke was under a dollar.

I grew up from the age of ten in Barberton and graduated in 1976. I have a lot of fond memories of my home town. Imoved away from the greater Akron area 20 years ago. I moved back to the place I was born. Southeastern KY. Guess the 'hills called me back *home*. Anyway, thanks for the memories...

Be well,
Patricia Hopkins-Baldwin
