Hello VM Supporters! See you next Monday at the "Women's Appreciation" Open Mic in collaboration with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. It's gonna be hot for everyone- but especially for the ladies! We are writing to let you know that our sign-in process will be changing. We have decided to re-evaluate our previous first come,first served 7:30 sign up process in light of the fact that people were having to come earlier and earlier (around 6:30) to get on, we had over 40+ people in line by 7:25 last week, people were budging in line, and that a lot of the same people are getting on each week. Our goal is to make our open mic the best it can be and we would like to try a new process in order to get more people on the mic and have more variety. That being said, this process is still under construction and is subject to change pending on how it works out for the rest of this semester. Please bear with us and feel free to provide us with any feedback that you have on the process. The Voices Merging Executive Board has decided that sign up will work in the following way: Sign-up will be from 7:30-7:50. There is no longer any need for artists to arrive before 7:30 and line up. You have the same chance of getting on whether you come at 7:31 or 7:49. Between 7:50 and 8:00, 15 names will be randomly drawn and announced. The order will not be announced and is not guaranteed, but you will know for sure who is getting on the mic for that night. There is also a new rule that artists cannot perform at two open mics in a row. That means if your name is drawn, we will cross-check with last week's list and if you performed last time, we will ask that you wait until the next one. This rule will ensure that a lot more people are able to get on and provides you with more preparation time. Again, we will be trying out this new system and re-vamping as necessary. After the next open mic, feel free to email us (onevoice@umn.edu) to let us know what you thought about it. Lastly, after the open mics, we REALLY need people to clear the venue. We have been asked by the building staff to have everyone leave a lot faster than has been happening. After the open mics, there are cyphers (people having fun freestyling/beatboxing/singing, etc) hosted by the Cypher Coalition outside of the Washington Avenue entrance. Please go out there and check it out, you might make it on a YouTube video! Even if that does not interest you, please clear out of the building immediately after the open mics, if we want to continue to have them there, we need the building staff on our side:) Thank you for your attention!
