The days of the "alt" model/stripper are over in portland, thanx to the thousands of fake ass poser bitches who made it uncool. Most of you will never know how good we once had it. Back in the day customers used to show their appreciation by tipping even when they were not sitting at the "rack" (the seats around the stage where people are REQUIRED to tip at least one dollar per song) in those days people used to come to clubs in portland and be entertained by super original innovative dancers who changed stripping into performance art!  I myself would put on new shows every week all my sets had themes with costumes to match i brought out props: guns, knives, dildos, crucifixes, blo-up dolls, and other fun things. Now on top of the decline of customer tipping club owners keep adding more girls and at some clubs more stages so no one girl gets to do any special shows. However, sometimes i still try because i remember how even if people weren't tipping they used to have so much enthusiasm for these sets it would make doing it worth it despite lack of $. but now most customers seem more interested in their iphones or proving to their girlfriends that they are oblivious to other women...and all my old sets have been used by other girls and made into shit. All the bands i used to love and play have been tainted... i wont even come up with anything new because i know that will be ripped off as well.

I knew it would eventually go this way all trends die. And, I understand we are in a recession people cant afford strippers... but then why were there so many people in sassys last weekend that you couldnt move? do all these people seriously believe we get paid to be there for them to look at for free while they drink cheap beer?

For the last time people!!!! we pay a stage fee in portland to work at the clubs and we tip out all the other employees. We are independent contractors. We dont have healthcare or dental or anything like that alot of the dancers pay taxes, own homes, have kids, bills and debt..and are stripping along with working other "real" jobs to cover thier asses. I got it pretty easy compared to most but im still the biggest bitch i wont stand for disrespect and bullshit. I'll still be here for a little while trying to figure out how to do this without becoming jaded and spiteful and trying to figure out what will be my next job..oh and another thing some people asked why dont i do more modeling? because that dosn't pay either unless i wear a wig and airbrush out my tattoos the only ones i ever got paid for were for a more conservative look..im not interested in that...plus im 34 its too l8 to start doing that! seriously! i can't rely on my looks much longer...i plan on growing old gracefully..i will let go when make-up stops workin....Till then if u are planning on becoming a stripper hahaaaa the good days are over and if u are a customer planning on goin to a strip club just to drink and you are not friends with one of the dancers or staff prepare to get drinks kicked into your lap by jaded bitchy strippers you are helping create. if you are not one of those people i love you and thank you for all the support. I do appreciate all the years i did have with this and i thank portland for being the weirdest still...and still better than vegas or L.A. but im still gonna bitch when its shitty! i promise if it starts gettin better i bring out bigger and better shows..'till then shit for all! suck me! welcome to the jungle!!! no more nice malice! hahahaaa i have joined the darkside!

If I go into a club, I always makes sure I have tippin money.  I go to appreciate the shows but you are so correct in what the economy has done.  I know many dancers in different states (I travel and because of what I do) who are experiencing the same problems as every one else.

Oh by the way, welcome to the darkside.  We have cookies!   *wicked grins*

Join the dark side?  You ARE the dark side!

I'm sorry to hear that it has come to this.  I know you have earned more respect than that and you know I have always supported you.  I don't even notice the imitators because they will never be worthy to even lick your boots.  If the drunk idiots can't recognize the greatness that is Malice then that's their loss  But then they're too stupid to figure that out.

For purely selfish reasons I hope you are still going to perform at DP.  At least every once in a while if not every Monday.  Next Monday should be a lot of fun and I hope you'll be there.  Hell, be in the audience if you like.

Love you lots!

Have you thought about trying another city for awhile? I think you could do well in Memphis. Seeing as most of the dancers here ar of the blonde/plastic/fake tits look. It's pretty much anything goes here in Memphis, so you could pretty much do what you want in your act. There are alot of transplanted Memphis folk in Portland, so mention the Antenna Reunion Show if you wouldn't mind. It's Aug 14-16. By the way, I think you are sex in a bottle!

This definetly ain't the Portland it was 15-20 years ago. I was at a show last week and the owner asked me to have the band turn it down because it was too loud for some complaining fucks!
Then, at DP on sunday, I had to tell the people next to me at the rack to put up money over and over because they didn't have a fucking clue! At least you haven't changed! Thank you for that!!

Well after people got too used to PDX having far too many strip clubs and strippers too go around

we hit a recession..... howEVER- BEFORE any of that started I have constantly witnessed losers coming to a STRIP bar to "just have a drink" and never tip a dollar. Sometimes not even to the bartender. I file them as pathetic losers. Then I imagine kicking them in the face. I wish I had health insurance.

its not just men!!! the clubs i work at are pretty much 50-50 men and women customers. Thats what i used to love about portland. I used to go out of my way to put on a good show for the ladies but now i think the expectations are too high. I swear its been since Penthouse wroth that article about portland strip clubs and compared dancers at the clubs here to cirque du soli. true girls in most other cities dont even touch the pole its all hustle in most cities. However, now people expect some acrobatics or some shit. im not even flexible!!! sometimes i feel like a sea lion at sea world and the dollar bills represent little sardines if i do the right tricks i win the dollar but if not i have to keep trying!!! its kinda funny.....kinda

thanks for standing up for the guys, Malice. I know it doesn't take much more than a modicum of intelligence and reason to figure out, but we 'penised humans' are not the root of all of the world's issues...

I've been busy as hell lately, but I swear I'm comin' to Sassy's this weekend - with the previously mentioned vintage concert shirt!

Evidence that some guys do hate it when other guys don't respect the dancers:

I once trapped a guy in the shitter at Mary's Club and read him the riot act after he and his buddies sat through a dancer's entire set - AT THE RACK - without giving her a single dollar. My last words to him were "go home and jerk off to internet porn you fucking douchebag!"

The end of an era.

I wasn't ready to leave Sassys, but now I'm happy that I've gotten out of dancing when I did.  It's not easy to find something else to do, because we are so used to the money, but the few girls who loved dancing like we do... find it hard to dance when even the crowd is pathetic in response.  Like they cant even muster up the smile to show appreciation let alone the dollar.

It's become about "how many girls" they can pack into the roster, instead of the quality of the girls on the roster.  People used to come to the clubs to see the same 4-6 girls dance all night, because we were favorites.  Now, with a never ending newbie list of girls, people can't cling to favorites or rely on the "atmosphere" it once was.

Truly depressing.  You think a club would want to keep the girls and the employees that made it what it was.

I am sorry to see an artist become disillusined (?) with her art, but I can understand. I too have walked away from paying gigs because I was being stifffled, or not being allowed to do things my way.

And as far as being imitated, you know what they say about imitaion and flattery...

But, Portland has lost a great performer. I raise my glass to you....

That sucks that people stopped paying. I love watching you dance- but I really liked you when you were a student working in a pizza shop too.  You're a powerful woman. Maybe it's time for the next phase. (I probably just pissed of half of Portland by writing that).

I miss seeing you around

having been a soo-so dancer at DP for 9 months....I understand the feeling of being copied.  Even my lame ass style was.
you are truly original, and you gotta hand it to the young ones for giving it a shot.
hey--most of the rest of the country has shit when it comes to strippers....I am in southern Indiana right now for school and the only club in this town is sooooo sad.  But there was one chick last Friday who had a cool look--haha turns out she was born and raised in PDX--figures!  I guess the rest of the country is a year or two behind PDX.
Your creativity---well, art is always being copied and changed and that is the inventive process.  Now you just have to be creative again....
I also think that being a stripper is trendy, and it might die back down.
maybe if the clubs charge a cover it could keep the riff raff out.  The girls here go around and ask to be tipped for their stage performance.  Sad times.  NO ONE has money.

Ah, sweet Malice. Remember your first night? The excitement and fun we had together? Sometimes I reflect on that and it feels like yesterday. I work off and on here in NYC, but I can't unless I wear makeup over my tattoos. Now that I have a backpiece, I can't exactly do that without paying the club's make-up artist to do it.The clubs where tattoos are ok ARE all about the hustle. I haven't done a pole trick since I left Jack's or Portland for that matter. I've even had clubs turn me down because I wear glasses.
But the story here is the same financially. I kept hoping I could come back to PDX for a retreat of sorts back to the "old days" when dancing was fun and not such a headache.

I miss you lady! ♥

This makes me so sad. I am moving to Portland at the end of the summer to start school again and I was hoping things wouldn't be as played out and lame as they are in other cities. I am an old punk rock, veteran stripper that has no use for the excess greed, drama, 'extras' and bullshit that seems to prevail at so many clubs that I have worked at. Sorry to hear that it is the same old story everywhere.
