Instrumentos solos 2009, third weekWell, this time there were connection problems again and the live broadcasting was sometimes cut off. And I must say that the quality of videos is not the best. Anyway it is worth watching them if you are insterested. As the Wednesday video is not complete, I added a video of the concert version of the piece played that day.
Anyway, recordings on the mp3 player sound much better. You should check it if you want to listen.

Workshop by Valentin Garvie, Wednesday April 29th. The trumpet.
This was a kind of trumpet class for composers. So, the trumpeter insisted a lot in the nature of the instrument. He went on with its history and later, of course, its use in modern music. The meeting was full of live examples, and we had a guest: Matías Nieva, who is working on some extended techniques on the trumpet. (

The end was spectacular: a live version of Limites, by Eduardo Moguillansky. The piece has such conception that it turns out to be a detail that the player must use two trumpets at the same time.

Open workshop by Javier Leichman, Thursday April 30th. Recovering interpretation for electroacoustical music
Javier Leichman composed Alter ID (Jerico) for trumpet and electronics. But it happens that the electronic part must be played on an instrument. He calls it "real time electro acoustic instrument", and its interface is a keyboard.
The piece becomes then a duo, and, according to composer's words, a kind of hybrid between electronic and instrumental music.
Valentin Garvie and Bruno Mesz played the work at the beginning of the meeting. Then a discussion about electro acoustics and interpretation took place.

Concert. Saturday May 2nd
Co-produced with "Instituto Nacional de Musicología Carlos Vega"
It misses at the program that Andrea García (
you can check here her Myspace's profile) played the piano resonance in Berio's Sequenza. I've also added that video at the end, in case you want to check the trumpeter's movements.

The last piece of the concert was Schatten, for trumpet, tape and live electronics by Dietmar Wiesner. Dietmar is Ensemble Modern's flutist, and also composer. You can check on him at the Ensemble Modern webpage.

Hope you enjoyed it!
Till next week.
