What to put in the sub-mix?

If you are sub-mixing your drums because you don’t have enough channels in your PA be sure to send the kick drum and snare signals to the main mix independently of the sub-mix.

Why?

Kick and snare usually need different eq and effects than the rest of the kit and, if the kick and snare are separate, you can adjust the level of the cymbals and toms without changing the kick and snare levels.
