Is local Radio that damn bad?  I mean besides the fact that I'm an  artist, i am also a fan of music who overstands the importance of local radio that nurtures the soul of the community that tunes in daily.  I mean, If I'm gonna have to listen to the same 8 songs all day....The least yall can do is interrupt now and then and lemme know what's going on for that weekend in the hood....Like, I remember when Stevie Wonder songs used to actually play on the Radio......

this is why I listen to NPR daily, between the wack song selections, and talking, commercials you  are better off bumpin' your own CD....

I can't listen to the radio here for over five mins, no exaggeration...

At work, I play classical, when I get home, yahoo launchcast, and at bed, CDs. The "selection" on our stations consist of 8 songs (thanks, Geno) in the same rotation, like ere other day! I'm not even touchin the "hip hop" station..don't even get me started....but I KNOW with a classic soul station, along with the others Dallas has, we oughta be rockin all day everyday! We have too many gifted artists and too many masterpieces to be hearing the same thing over and over and over....and over.

We have the FCC to thank for easing the rules on media ownership and creating crappy radio and one sided news viewpoints. This is usually accelerated when Republicans are in control, but it happened under Clinton as well. Moveon.org tracks this phenomenon. Speak out. Everyone!!!

It is beyond terrible. We're truely at our lowest point. Our power went out years ago & now our generator is running out. It's no coincidence that just as The Laffy Taffy is breaking ringtone sales, Three 6 Mafia receives an Oscar making it easy for pimps, the illiteracy level, pregnacy, STD'S, crime in our communities are at an all time high. And now we throwin' D's on it. They've figured out a way for us to be our own slave masters. Yes I remember when Stevie was on the radio. Do you remember rhythm sections as a requirement? I guess they've been replaced with the entourage. I've had to do internet radio just to have peace. All I know is I've got to get to NASA so that I can go back to my planet, 'cause I can't be from this one.

I haven't listened to local radio in years.......
I can remember listen to Stevie wonder, Ohio Players, Maze, Angela Bofil....I can go on
It makes me wonder why are people so different now, they seem not to have an appreciation for lyrical content any more.... every song on the radio now sound the same.

LMAO!!!!! I totally feel you!!! I cannot stop laughin' because yeah, all they do is play Umbrella, Suicidal and the stupid songs that have no meaning at all! I swear...I counted and heard Umbrella seven times while I was at work one day!!! I don't listen to the radio anymore either. Its ashame! But honestly WHUR (Howard University) is the bomb! The only thing is that they do the quite storm tooooo early! But I got to give props to them because they expose the artist that really have something to say. When I first moved to the area, WHUR was all I listened to and they help expose me to more artist in the soul realm! Thanks WHUR!!!!!! :D LOL They have the radio online for those who want something wholesome and soulful to listen to during the day!

Geno, I feel ya here! Back in the day when radio was real, you could hear not only good real music, but what was goin' on in the hood. Its all about ratings and that revenue...I'm an old head and I can't stand it! I remember when we could hear Peaches & Herb, Norman Conners f. Michael Henderson and when the local DJ's actually had something of quality to say in between the records! PREACH GENO PREACH! In the words of Stevie Wonder, "I wish those days would come back once more!"

Peace & Blessings,

LadyC
