I just posted a song, 'Green Shirt', mostly recorded a year ago. The original vocals and lyrics never satisfied me, plus I added compression to the first recording. I have since abandoned compression on my recordings, I think Myspace and other music sites plus FM always adds a little compression to their library. The words were revised so I had to sing it once more to record.
The song is a political song about the ability for people to turn on each other, with a little influence from the 'man'. Bosnia, Poland, Germany, Uganda, the USA. It happens all the time, especially in hard times. The climate of our land was and is ripe for genocide, based on fear of other religions, the immigrants, and the normal US social sicknesses like racism, homophobia, and sexism.
When I wrote this song my revelation that my father was a Jew and he and his family had come over from Poland in the 1920's. To uproot a family and just move away just seems so extreme. I imagined the fear of a family so intense as to just flee. Plus our own country was justifying torture, towns were legalizing the right to refuse hospital care for aliens, war slaughter was glorified and civilian victims were getting counted with combatants, just weird, and scary.
The song is what it is, maybe a bit long, well it is long, but I needed it to convey my feelings in both words and music...
