It breaks my heart to say, that I may be losing my ferret 'Socky'. He is at the vet right now fighting for his life as I type this. Please send your prayers and well wishes to 'Socky' to give him the strength to get through this.
They have now clue what has happened, as he is exhibiting some of the same signs 'Tubesock' was when she fell ill. He is lethargic, dehydrated, pretty much catatonic. He also has developed purple bruising and swelling on his front end, and his temperature is so low that the thermometer can't even pic it up. They gave him fluids, and put him on some really high antibiotics. I felt like I was abandoning him when the vet told me to leave him with them, but I knew it was best.

For those of you that don't know 'Socky'  let me introduce him to you.

I got 'Socky' from Cowtown in Regina, last summer. The day prior to us coming in, some kids had dropped him off there. He was filthy, weak, rotten teeth, due to years of neglect, his tail had been broken, and the hair on it appeared to be cinged off. He had no name and walked like a drunken sailor, due to being so malnourished.
When we first brought him home he slept 95% of the time, to be honest I didn't even think he'd make it. I just thought at least if he died, he would have at least have gotten to know what it felt like to be loved.

'Socky' was a fighter though, and he came through it with a love for life. He came to star in many of his own YouTube videos, due to being such a character. Even my latest woodburning video that I am working on, 'Socky's' zipping back and forth, even stopping to watch for a bit. I just hope that it's not the last video he's in :(

It is 12:30 and I recieved a call from the Vet. My little "Socky"  has died. He wasn't just a ferret to me. He showed me that even though abused, in ways we couldn't even imagine, he loved life to the fullest. He was my shining star that always brought a smile to my face with all of his shinanigans.
Rest in Peace my friend :(

My thoughts are with you... my ferret, Zip-a-dee-doo-dah aka Zippy, died in a similar way... we had him at home and were trying to feed him... he got so weak he couldn't walk and the vet recommended putting him down...but we just had to try. When he passed my mom even tried mouth-to-mouth on him.

It's so sad, cause they are just so little, and to see something go from a rambunctious trouble maker, to a limp shell, is hard :(

I'm so sorry. I know each of your animals are a part of the family and that you are heartbroken. I send kisses and hugs you're way. You showed him that not all humans are bad and he had a wonderful year with you.

hugs,
Sheree'

Just watched the video,Socky would be proud that you made a video in his Honour.Very nice tribute to him.

Sny idea what the cause of his death was? Is this a common thing in Ferrets?**Sorry I don't know much about Ferrets**

The vet has no idea what caused it. The weird thing is Tubesock got very sick last year and we almost lost her, but the vet managed to save her. The symptoms weren't all the same, but were similar.

Jenn also mentioned about her ferret... so I was thinking maybe this is a common thing as ferrets face the potential for developing many different health problems. I think it's due to the fact that the domestic ferrets are not from a very large gene pool, but I could be wrong.

Another possibility is that we don't know how old he was. It was hard to guess his age because he was so neglected.

I asked because I read Jenn's comment and noticed what she said about her ferret.

My Cousin Trevor had Ferrets when he was younger. He has always been fairly knowledgeable about any animal he has owned.

BTW, New Hope Dog Rescue Saskatoon has a Pitbull/Boxer mix named Gambit. He is black and white.

So sorry to hear about Socky. He looked like quite the character and I'm sure the time he was with your family was the happiest in his little life.
