Have a listen to the evocative music of Verklärter Bungalow composed by my brother Ian Blake, on myspace.com/abelkain I commissioned the work for my CD of contemporary music from England and Australia for cello and voice, Captain Cook's Cello. Ian's music is derived from the Australian way of life and urban landscape. His sources are rich and varied and I have always been beguiled by his wonderfully droll sense of humour. The scene is set for Verklärter Bungalow with the sounds of a Canberran summer night. Ian writes, "An average Australian house is transfigured by its Christmas illuminations. Sir Isaac Newton comments. (Opticks 1730)". All of the sounds you hear in this piece are made by me, singing and playing the cello - except for the chorus of crickets that open the work. We let them speak for themselves.
