Well people, as the month of April approaches so too does The Rumba’s second birthday. Yes, two years ago we were partying in that dank, rank dungeon that was the Fotheringey basement with staff who cared not a jot and, almost from the start, the threat of imminent closure hanging over us like one of Big Stu’s nads.
It seems a far cry from those early days to the halcyon times we’ve enjoyed (and still do) in the commodious environs of the Ex-Servicemen’s Club. Long may it continue.
The feeling is that the April Rumba will be a busy one so the advice is to get there early. We’re planning some special treats that will hopefully act as an incentive including giving away some goodies, the shape and form of which haven’t quite manifested themselves just yet.
There will be a veritable panoply of Rumba DJ’s with the format reverting to much as it was in the early days with each DJ taking a half hour shift which should ensure a brisk turn around in musical style. But that people, is only the start of it. We can, without fear of disappointing, announce to you that we will have, playing live, as promised almost two years ago but delayed due to technical, artistic and motivational difficulties, Italo Disco outfit DEN HAAN! And having seen them make their live debut a couple of weeks ago I can tell you it’s well worth the wait. Add to that the welcome return of our lost son Mr James Gibson aka THRIFTSHOP XL and I think you will all agree that it is shaping up to be a classic Rumba.
So folks, you’ve got three weeks and three more Saturdays but remember, they’re only pracitice runs for the big one...
RUMBA ON...
