Some exciting news!!!
Just wanted to share some "cartwheels" with you all. And yes, it will be my geeked-out songwriting lingo (sorry Mindy). I brought in the mail today, which included our American Songwriter Magazine subscription. I usually just flip through a few articles, and I always like seeing the amateur lyric contest winners. Well, I opened up to p 105 and saw "Allie and Nick Lapointe" !?! I had forgotten about sending in a submission a few months ago.
We were named 4th place for the lyric contest for an Easter hymn we cowrote called "The Dogwood and the Willow Tree." It was an idea of Nick's that he had written most of the lyric for -- I mostly wrote the melody and helped tweak the lyric, so this is really an applause of Nick's lyric writing. Yay! They printed the entire lyric (with one typo). It's pretty much the Gospel story told poetically there on the page alongside the other three winners.
I think it's kind of funny because usually contests have 1st and 2nd place, and sometimes 3rd to be generous. But hooray for ASMagazine giving the little people a chance up to 4 places. And then they listed 11 "honorable mentions" after us. We'll take 4th happily!
