Category: Travel and Places

Though it is small (2 burners), my stove is super awesome.
Photobucket

It:s also super standard in Japan.

PhotobucketOf course, it is a gas stove.  I think all stoves in Japan are gas.  I prefer cooking with gas because of its fast reaction time and general strength.

My stove has some great features though.  For one thing, one of the burners has a temperature sensor, so it can do things like automatically keep my oil at either 160 or 180 degrees C.   It will sense when water boils and beep when it reaches boiling (if you push the *water boil* button first).  It also senses any amount of burning and will cut off the burner automatically.   I can:t tell you how many times that has saved my dinner!!

It also has a grill on the front for fish.  You fill the tray with water and put thefish on the rack.  It has a low and high setting and you can use the auto timer for either 4 or 8 minutes.  This grill will also cut off when the temperatures get too high.

This stove works on gas, yes, but the electronic panel is powered with large batteries.  They last a long time though so i only have to change them about every other year.  And i use my stove a lot!!!

My oven is separate (and also neat as hell).  I will cover it later.

When i lived in the usa i missed my japanese stove so much!

In the usa i had a large stove/oven combination.  American stoves usually run off of electricity and many have flat tops.

Photobucket
But, some people still use gas....to use gas in the usa you must have your own private gas tank i think.  The city only provides electricity as far as i:m aware.
Photobucket
True, having 4 burners was useful but i really missed the temp sensor and the grill. The large oven was also nice but i found it to be too large at times.  I didn:t want to heat the whole oven for just a small dish.   (I guess i needed a toaster oven).

Next time!!

I have a gas stove and prefer it too.  I grew up with electric.  Your stove is smal but practical.

gas stoves really are better.  i always had to think about the heat's reaction 5 minutes in the future when i used electric.  it:s also nice to be able to stop the heat without removing the pan.

i think most pro chefs use gas.

i also like gas coz it:s pretty hard to forget and leave the stove on (because you can see the flame!).  i have accidently left a burner on with my electric stove before.  it was hard to tell if it was on or not.

I know those differences between US and Japan. I do not know which one is better.

hmmm  i think gas is better than electric, but it is possible to have gas in the usa.  hmmm so i guess it depends on the situation?  When i have to cook a lot, for a holiday dinner or something, the big stoves with the big ovens and 4 burners are better.  Or when i want to put something big in the oven, or to make certain dishes, the larger oven is better.  otherwise i like the japanese stove better.   it is more convenient for everyday cooking i think.

i think one reason is coz everything is so small.  small things have a natural element of cuteness ;) !!
But yeah there does seem to be a general admiration for cute things....for instance saying a girl is cute in japan is a high complement, right?  but in the usa it:s like...well...usually used when you don:t want to say someone is ugly as hell hahahaha
also japan is more open to men using cute things.  japanese men don:t have the feeling that something cute is destroying their manliness...unless it:s REALLY cute i guess.....

Now I want to visit Japan! As crazy as it sounds, between the gum, the kitkat bars, the clothes, the culture...

Wish I was visiting Japan instead of Cuba.

It really is an interesting country.  i think the world is going to catch japan fever...actually it seems it:s already happening.  the scary thing is that japan is so small and crowded already!   seems unfair that japan is so small considering it:s popularity!

The chance to visit cuba is also cool i guess.  You can visit japan later and then you:ll have been to both!  That:s pretty awesome ;))   Take pics and be sure to let me know if you put them up online!!!!

Can you imagine a stove American style that's not large enough to roast a turkey in it?
