I just don't get it?
There is no reason for gay marriage to be a dividing issue. No matter what color, age, religion, culture you are; people fall in love everyday and a good portion of that demographic are gay. THIS IS FACT, not a bizarre twist of fate, not a state of temporary confusion, not a abomination, not a attack on the sanctity of marriage. If two people fall in love and find it's time to express that through ceremony and celebration so be it.
I can't believe I actually have to write this though here it goes:
THE DEGREE OF LOVE BETWEEN A GAY OR STRAIGHT COUPLE ARE EQUIAL, NOT DIFFERENT. THE SAME GOES FOR MARRIAGE.
There are not two different types of love reserved for different groups, love is love for all (no matter how cliché that sounds).
OK, even if your the most intolerant person in the world let me appeal to the one thing that you might relate to, the all mighty dollar. Do you know by voting YES on Prop 8 you have now deepen California more into a recession. Did you even consider how many more new jobs would have sprung if Prop 8 was shut down and the gay population was finally allowed to marry?
The new hiring of:
All Powerful Wedding Planers Caterers (food, tables, decoration, lighting, etc.) Wedding Cake Bakers and Decorators Live Music and Entertainment Floral Shops and Arrangers Jewelry Shops and Craftsmen Armies of Custom Tailors Location Rentals (not everyone wants to get married in a church) Airlines (getting families to and from) Hotels (couples and families need a place to stay) Car Rentals (need to get people to and from as well) Vacation Planers (Honeymoons)
And eventually New Couples looking for New Homes!
(btw, not to crush anyone's dreams here but do you know how much divorce costs? Lawyers would be overwhelmed with all the new cases)
WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU STIMULATE THE ECONOMY... BY ADDING NEW JOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T WANT GAY MARRIAGE IT WOULD HAVE HELPED CALIFORNIA IN SO MANY WAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But lets get back on track here.
Voting NO on Prop 8 would have given the excluded new rights and another step to social acceptance.
I'm embarrassed to say I live in California right now.
